If you notice any of the following, your Google Account may have been hacked, hijacked, or compromised:

  • Changes you didn’t make: Your profile picture, descriptions, email settings, AdSense association, or sent messages are different

  • Uploaded videos that aren't yours: Someone has posted videos as your Google Account. You may get email notifications about these videos for penalties or strikes against bad content

There are additional steps that you can take to help protect your account from being hijacked by a third party. This includes:

  • Create a strong password and keep it safe

  • Enable 2-factor authentication on your Google Account

  • Proceed with regular security check-ups

  • Be aware of phishing attempts (i.e. suspicious requests or sites)

  • For branded deals, please use your caution and alternatively ask the brand to provide videos or other assets in the email body to avoid downloading unknown files. If they refuse, it could be a phishing attempt.

  • Set and check permissions on your channel

To have a full breakdown of how to secure your YouTube channel, you can visit the YouTube Help Center. If you have experienced a hijack or phishing attack on your YouTube account, please contact us at support@rhei.com or follow the steps outlined here to help you retrieve your information and account.
