Overview

Contracts lets you generate professional contracts, send them for e-signature via DocuSign, and download signed PDFs — all without leaving RightAsk. You describe what you need in plain language and RightAsk produces a draft you can review and edit before sending.

Before you start

Contracts are sent for e-signature through DocuSign. Before you can send a contract, you must connect your DocuSign account:

  1. Select Integrations in the left sidebar.

  2. Find DocuSign and select Connect DocuSign.

  3. Complete the DocuSign authorization flow. Once connected, return to Contracts.

You only need to do this once. If DocuSign is already connected, you can skip this step. For full instructions, see Connect DocuSign to RightAsk.

How to open Contracts

Select Business in the left sidebar, then select Contracts.

Creating a contract

  1. Select New Contract (or the + button) on the Contracts page.

  2. In the Contract request field, describe the contract you need. For example: “A freelance design services agreement for a 3-month project at $5,000 with payment due on delivery.”

  3. Select Generate Contract. RightAsk produces a draft — this may take a few seconds.

  4. Review the draft in the editor. Select the edit icon to make changes directly.

  5. When satisfied, select Save.

Prompt tips:

  • Be specific about parties, scope, payment terms, and duration.

  • The request field has a 4,000-character limit.

  • You can regenerate or request revisions after the initial draft.

Sending for signature

  1. Open a contract with Draft status.

  2. Select Send for Signature.

  3. Enter the signatory’s name and email address.

  4. Place the signature field where you want it to appear on the document.

  5. Confirm the send. The contract is submitted to DocuSign and the signatory receives an email with a signing link.

The contract status changes to Sent For Signature once dispatched.

Contract statuses

Status

What it means

Draft

Created but not yet sent

Sent For Signature

Sent via DocuSign, awaiting signature

Signed

All parties have signed

Declined

The signatory declined to sign

Expired

The signing deadline passed without a signature

Voided

Cancelled after sending

You can filter the contracts list by status using the tabs at the top of the page: All, Draft, Sent, Signed, and Closed. The Closed tab groups contracts that are no longer active — those with a Declined, Expired, or Voided status.

Exporting a contract as a PDF

You can export any saved contract to a PDF, at any status. Open the contract and select Export PDF. This downloads the contract text as a PDF — useful for keeping a copy of a draft or a contract that is out for signature.

Downloading a signed contract

Downloading the final signed document is separate from exporting the text. Once every party has signed:

  1. Open a contract with Signed status.

  2. Select Download Signed.

  3. The executed contract downloads as a PDF.

What happens next

Once a contract is signed, it is stored in RightAsk with a Signed status. You can return to it at any time to download the PDF or view the signatory details.

Troubleshooting

Contract generation is taking a long time or failed. Select Generate Contract again. If it continues to fail, simplify your request or break it into shorter descriptions.

The signatory did not receive the signature email. Confirm the email address was entered correctly. Ask the signatory to check their spam folder. DocuSign emails come from a DocuSign address, not from RightAsk directly.

The contract is stuck on Sent For Signature. The signatory has not signed yet. You can resend the signing request from the contract detail view if the option is available. If the deadline passes, the status changes to Expired.

I cannot find the Download Signed button. The Download Signed button appears only for contracts with Signed status, because it downloads the executed document. To save a copy of a contract at any other status, use Export PDF instead — it is available for any saved contract.

Send for Signature is not available or sending fails. Your DocuSign account must be connected before contracts can be sent. Select Integrations in the left sidebar, find DocuSign, and select Connect DocuSign to authorize the connection. Once connected, return to the contract and try again.
