What are treasury bills (T-bills)?

Written by Rebecca

Treasury bills are short-term debt obligations issued by the U.S. Treasury. T-bills are considered one of the safest investments available and serve as a benchmark for low-risk returns. They are also among the most highly liquid instruments in global financial markets, so there are minimal price impacts when bought or sold. For US investors, T-bill earnings may be exempt from state and local taxes.
