🛡️ How NCD Protection Works
If you have No Claims Discount (NCD) Protection, your NCD won’t be reduced if you make a claim. You’ll keep the same number of years at renewal.
We offer NCD Protection as an optional add-on when you buy your policy. It comes at an extra cost and usually requires at least 1 year of NCD, though eligibility may vary by insurer. If you're unsure, just jump on our Live Chat in the app and our Customer Service Team will be happy to help.
❌ What Happens Without NCD Protection
As a general guide:
If you make one fault claim during the policy period, your NCD will usually reduce by 2 years at renewal.
If you had 5 or more years of NCD, one claim may reduce your bonus to 3 years.
If you make two or more claims, your NCD will usually be reset to zero, unless you’ve paid extra to protect it.
Please note: this may vary depending on your insurer, so it’s best to check your policy documents or chat with us.
🧠 Other Important Things to Know
Most insurers cap NCD at 9 years — so even if you’ve built up 12 or 15 years, any reduction after a claim will usually start from 9.
Any claim (fault or non-fault) may still increase your renewal price, even if your NCD is protected.
Windscreen and emergency medical claims usually don’t affect your NCD.
NCD is non-transferable and cannot be used by named drivers.
Most insurers allow up to 2 fault claims in a 5-year period for protected NCD.
NCD Protection does not protect the overall cost of your policy — just the discount.
