Night time driving is usually deemed between 11pm and 5am however this does differ depending on the seasons, so please just use this as a guide.
When Daylight Saving Time ends on 30th October at 2am, and we revert to shorter days more people will be forced into driving when it's dark, so take extra care on the road and try and limit the amount of night time driving you do. If you are a shift worker and drive a lot at night, and can't avoid these times your quote will be reflective of this, although we hope your quote will still be much more competitive than traditional insurers.
However, ultimately, night time driving is a real no no, and it's not surprising that shorter days, fatigue, compromised night vision, rush hour and impaired drivers are some of the risks we face when driving at night, which make it a much more dangerous time to drive. As a Rooster customer, we want to keep you safe, so here are some top tips to help you combat the dangers of nighttime driving:
Aim your headlights correctly, and make sure they're clean
Dim your dashboard
Look away from oncoming lights
If you wear glasses, make sure they're anti-reflective
Clean your windscreen to eliminate streaks
Slow down to compensate for limited visibility and reduced stopping time
Watch out for children, animals and cyclists who are more vulnerable in the dark
