If you're seeing a black screen with just a small square (see image below) after tapping "Get Started" on the welcome screen, this is typically caused by an iOS compatibility issue that can be resolved with a fresh installation.
Here's how to fix it:
1) Delete the Roots app
Press and hold the Roots app icon on your home screen
Tap "Remove App"
Select "Delete App" to confirm
This will completely remove the app from your device
2) Update to iOS 26.3
Before reinstalling Roots, make sure you're running iOS 26.3 or later:
Go to Settings > General > Software Update
If iOS 26.3 (or a newer version) is available, tap "Download and Install"
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update
Your phone will restart automatically when the update is complete
3) Restart your phone
After the iOS update completes, restart your phone one more time:
This ensures everything is properly refreshed before reinstalling Roots

4) Reinstall the Roots app
Open the App Store
Search for "Roots - Screen Time Control"
Tap the download button to reinstall
Open the app and go through the setup process
The combination of updating iOS and doing a fresh installation should resolve the welcome screen error.
