Setting Up and Using Extras

Updated over 2 months ago

Guest Extras are add-ons or upgrades that guests can purchase to enhance their stay. These extras provide added convenience, comfort, or unique experiences, such as early check-in, late check-out, special amenities, or curated local experiences. By offering Guest Extras, you can personalize your guests’ stay while creating additional revenue opportunities for your property.

Before you begin setting your Extras, connect RueBaRue to your Stripe account.

In this section, we will cover:

  1. Prepare Your Account for Testing Guest Extras

  2. Setup Categories

  3. Add Extras

  4. Testing Extras

Step 1: Prepare Your Account for Testing Guest Extras

Follow these steps to set up your account for testing the Extras feature:

  1. Add a Tag called “Extras” from Settings > Tags

  2. Add a Home Guide with the property ID “Extras Test” (we will ensure you are not billed for it). Attach the “Extras” tag to this Home Guide.

  3. Add a Test Booking with the property ID “Extras Test.”

Step 2: Setup Categories

  1. Go to Settings> Extras page.

  2. Add categories (e.g., Early-Check-in/Late Check-out, Sports Rentals).

  3. Sections are hidden by default. Turn off the hide toggle to make it visible in the guide.

Step 3: Add Extras

  1. Click + Product to create a product for the extra (e.g., "Early Check-In").

  2. Add a Thumbnail. If you need help with photos, contact support@ruebarue.com.

  3. Add a Description

  4. Add Specifications or any fine print items.

  5. Add a Price

  6. Mark the item as Taxable. The report will show which items are subject to applicable taxes.

  7. Enable the "Show date when required" field toggle to allow guests to select a delivery date for the item.

  8. Enable the "Show quantity field" toggle to allow guests to specify the quantity of the item.

  9. Enable the "Show Special Instructions Field" toggle to allow guests to enter any special instructions for the item.

  10. Attach a Tag if you want this product to be visible only for specific properties.

  11. Add a Variant (e.g., "Hours")

    Types of Variants:

    Base Item with Add-Ons
    • A primary item that includes optional add-ons.
    • Example: A boat rental with an optional life jacket or a bicycle rental with an add-on helmet.

Variants with Different Options (Same Price)
    • A product available in multiple options, all priced the same.
    • Example: T-shirts in various colors, all at a fixed price.

    Variants with Different Prices
    • A product with options that vary in price.
    • Example: T-shirts priced differently by size or early check-in costs based on check-in time.

When you use a variant with different prices, the default price is added to the variant price. Set the product price to zero if you want to offer an early check-in with different prices.

  12. Enable the "Allow Multiple Selection" toggle to enable guests to select multiple variants for an item.

  13. Enable the "Require Selection" toggle to ensure that guests must choose at least one variant before adding the item.

Step 4: Testing Extras

  1. Go to Guests page

  2. Find the Test Booking with the property ID “Extras Test.”

  3. Click the Guestbook button (under the Details icon) to view the Extras tab on the guestbook.

Please test the complete workflow before rolling it out to customers to ensure a seamless experience.

The order will appear on the Orders page when an order is placed. Read more about Orders here.
