How RV Help Handles 1099s for Service Providers

The short version

When you take payments through RV Help's secure payments (powered by Stripe), Stripe handles your tax reporting automatically. If you qualify, Stripe files a 1099-K with the IRS and sends you a copy — you don't need to request anything from RV Help.

The platform fee (5%) and payment processing fee (2.99%) you pay are deductible business expenses. You do not need a 1099 from RV Help to claim them. You claim them from your own transaction records, the same way you'd deduct QuickBooks fees or any other cost of doing business.

What is a 1099-K?

A 1099-K is an IRS form that reports the total payment volume you received through a payment processor during the year. Think of it as a record of money that flowed to you through the platform.

Two things to understand about it:

It reports your gross payment volume — the full amount customers paid before any fees are taken out. It does not subtract the platform fee or the processing fee. This means the number on your 1099-K will be higher than what actually landed in your bank account. That is normal and expected.

It is not an itemized expense statement. You won't find your fees broken out on it. You report the gross figure as income on your return, then deduct your fees and other business expenses separately.

Will I receive a 1099-K?

For the 2025 tax year and beyond, Stripe is required to file a 1099-K for your connected account if you exceed both of these federal thresholds in a calendar year:

  • More than $20,000 in total payments, and

  • More than 200 transactions

If you meet both, Stripe files automatically and you'll get a copy (typically by late January).

Important: Some states set their own, lower thresholds. Depending on where you operate, you may receive a 1099-K even if you're under the federal numbers. Your tax preparer can tell you what applies in your state.

If you're under the thresholds

If you don't exceed both the payment and transaction thresholds above, the 1099-K reporting requirement doesn't apply to you, and you generally won't receive a 1099-K for your marketplace payments.

That doesn't leave you without records. You can always see your full payment history and a breakdown of the fees you paid in your Provider Billing Dashboard in RV Help, and Stripe keeps the same detail in your Stripe Dashboard. So whether or not a form is issued, you (or your bookkeeper) can pull everything you need at any time.

How you handle your taxes is up to you and your accountant — RV Help can't advise on that. We're just letting you know what to expect from the platform's reporting and where to find your records.

Does RV Help send a 1099-NEC?

No. The 1099-NEC reports direct payments a business makes to a contractor for services. RV Help is a marketplace that facilitates payments between you and your customers through Stripe — we are not paying you directly for work, so a 1099-NEC does not apply to your marketplace earnings. Stripe's 1099-K is the relevant form for payments processed on the platform.

Claiming your fees as expenses

The fees you pay on secure payments are ordinary, deductible business expenses:

  • Platform fee — 5% on platform-originated jobs

  • Payment processing fee — 2.99%

You claim these from your records, not from any form RV Help sends. Your Provider Billing Dashboard shows your payments and a full fee breakdown, so you (or your bookkeeper) can pull a complete fee report for the year. This is the same way you'd deduct your QuickBooks subscription or the card-processing fees QuickBooks charges.

Where to find your records

  • Provider Billing Dashboard (in RV Help) → your full payment history and fee breakdown, in one place

  • Stripe Dashboard → the same transaction and fee detail, exportable for your accountant

  • Your 1099-K (if issued) → available in your Stripe account, usually by late January

Still have questions?

For how any of this applies to your specific situation, please talk to your accountant or tax professional — they can advise on your return, your state's rules, and your deductions. For questions about your payments or finding your records on the platform, reach out to RV Help support and we'll point you to the right place.
