To work with Ryde with a car or motorised vehicle, you will need 'Hire & Reward' and 'Social, Domestic & Pleasure' insurance.

In this article you will learn:

What insurance you need to work with us

Hire & Reward (H&R)

This insurance allows you to legally deliver anyone else's goods to people in exchange for payment. If delivering from a motorised vehicle you will need to have:

  • Hire & Reward insurance, or

  • Fast food delivery insurance, or

  • Carriage of goods, including food, for hire, and reward insurance.

Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD&P)

This is standard insurance that you should have on any motorised vehicle that will cover everyday use!

Bicycle Insurance

We work closely with Laka and they provide Bicycle cover that is made especially for cyclists. This is not mandatory but we strongly recommend it.

Why do I need hire & reward insurance?

Hire and reward insurance is a legal requirement for those who carry other people’s goods or passengers on a motorised vehicle in return for payment in the UK.

If you don’t have the right insurance, you won’t be covered as your standard car insurance will no longer be valid, leaving you uninsured in the event of a claim.

It is in your best interest to have hire and reward insurance, and at Ryde, it is mandatory for motorised vehicles to have an in date valid policy before completing work. We believe it is always important to be properly protected whilst on the job.

When am I protected by Ryde?

Bike

When on a push pedal bike, cargo bike or any other unmotorised vehicle (categorised as anything that does not require motor insurance or a vehicle that doesn’t go faster than 15mph) you are covered by Ryde’s Public Liability insurance.

Our Public Liability insurance is provided by ONSI and provides protection if you are legally liable for causing injury or damage to a third party.

If you reach our gold tier membership, by completing 20+ jobs or shifts within the previous month, you will also have access to our Wellness and Time Off Work protections. These cover family leave, compassionate leave, accidental death, disability and accident and injury. More on Gold tier membership here.

Car and moped

When on any motorised vehicle, it is mandatory for you to have hire and reward insurance and motor insurance, as stated in Ryde’s terms and conditions.

As above, once you reach gold tier, you will have access to our Wellness and Time Off Work protections.
