The results in Ryte Content Success are based on a TF*IDF analysis. This analysis determines the relevancy of a single keyword for your focus keyword. Because the raw TF*IDF results are harder to read we normalize the results to make it easier to grasp the relevance of a single keyword at a glance.

Overview

Target Relevancy

The Target Relevancy is a range shown in Content Success > Analyze > Detail mode. The TF*IDF values are normalized and shown in a range between 0 and 100. You can use your mouse to hover over the relevancy bar of a keyword to see the exact relevancy range you should target for this keyword. The range is defined by the TF*IDFavg (lower end of range) and TF*IDFmax (upper limit of the range) calculated for this specific keyword.

If you use the compare option you can directly see whether or not your content hits the target. If it doesn’t, don’t worry! You can optimize your content with the Content Editor in Content Success > Optimize.

Keyword relevancy

Keyword relevancy refers to the TF*IDFavg value of the keyword normalized to be displayed in a range between 0 and 100. That allows you to easily put the importance of the suggested keywords into relation. A keyword with a relevancy of 100 is more important to users than one with only 5. This is especially valuable when you are still planning your content and determining which different topics or themes you need to touch on.

Keyword relevancy is shown in both the Keyword recommendations view as well as the Competition view of Content Success > Analyze.

Relevancy always refers to TF*IDF values. The TF*IDF values are influenced by keyword mentions but these two metrics are not equal! Keyword mentions are just one of several metrics used to calculate the TF*IDF scores.

Why does a competitor with fewer keyword mentions have higher relevancy?

Keyword relevancy takes the text length into consideration. Even though a competitor might have fewer keyword mentions on their URL than you if their content overall is shorter than your content the competitor can have higher relevancy.

For the comparison, we analyze the whole source code of the URL. That means that we take keyword mentions in the meta tags into consideration as well.
