A passkey replaces your password with something you already have: your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. It's faster to use and more secure because there's no password that can be guessed or stolen.
What is a passkey?
A passkey is a login method built into your device. Instead of typing a password, you confirm your identity with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. The passkey is stored securely on your device — Safe After Me never sees it.
Passkeys work on most modern devices and browsers, including iPhones, Android phones, Macs, Windows PCs, and Chromebooks.
Set up a passkey during signup
When you create your Safe After Me account, you'll see an option to Sign up with passkey. Choose that option and follow your device's prompt. That's it — your passkey is ready.
Add a passkey to an existing account
If you signed up with a password and want to add a passkey:
Go to Settings > Security.
Click Add passkey.
Follow your device's prompt to create the passkey.
Once your passkey is set up, you can use it to log in instead of your password.
What if my device doesn't support passkeys?
Some older devices and browsers don't support passkeys yet. If you don't see the passkey option during signup, sign up with an email and password instead. You can add a passkey later when you upgrade your device or browser.
Good to know
Passkeys are tied to your device. If you get a new phone or computer, you may need to set up a new passkey. See Managing your passkey for details.
If you use a passkey, you don't need two-factor authentication — passkeys are already phishing-resistant.
You can manage your passkeys anytime from Settings > Security.
