This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.
Nomad Insurance Essential has a benefit to transport you from one medical facility to another when the first facility cannot provide the medically necessary care you need. This benefit is not available solely on a member's request and has important conditions:
Physician Recommendation Required
The evacuation must be recommended by your attending physician
The physician must certify that transportation is medically necessary
The physician must confirm that your life or limb is at risk if you are not transported to another hospital
Member or Representative Consent
You must agree to the evacuation arrangement
Someone speaking on your behalf (typically a family member that the hospital gets in touch with) can provide consent if you cannot
Pre-Approval and Coordination
All travel arrangements must be approved in advance by SafetyWing
SafetyWing must coordinate all evacuation logistics
You cannot arrange medical evacuation independently and expect reimbursement
Other conditions
Your illness or injury is covered under this plan
The emergency did not happen as a result of you ignoring or failing to seek treatment that was previously recommended by a physician
The benefit only covers transportation from one medical facility to the other. Coverage applies only up to when you are admitted to the new medical facility
Benefit limits
Up to $100,000 during your lifetime (lifetime maximum)
Up to $25,000 in relation to a pre-existing illness or injury
Up to $5,000 for a ticket to return to the area you were initially evacuated from
