If you use a Customer Sage account login to sign into Sage HR, you can set up and manage a recovery method. You should always set up a recovery method so that you can reset 2FA yourself.

What's a recovery method?

A recovery method is an alternative phone number or email address to use when you can't access your primary 2FA method and you've lost your recovery code. You can use the recovery method to either generate a new recovery code so you can log in, or remove your 2FA device so you can set up 2FA again.

📎NOTE: You can't have both a recovery phone number and email address.

The recovery email address or phone number must be different from the ones you already use for the Sage account. For example, if you authenticate via text, you can't use that number as your recovery method.

How do I know if I have a recovery method?

There are two ways to check if you have a recovery method:

  • Testing the recovery method option - When you click the recovery method option it will tell you if there's no recovery method set up

  • Logging into Account Management - When you log into account.sso.sage.com, if you don't have a recovery method, there will be a banner telling you

'Recovery method not set up' message in Account Management.

How do I set up a recovery method?

You're prompted to set up a recovery method when you first set up 2FA. However, you can also set one up manually.

The steps below are how you do the following:

  • Manually set up a recovery method

  • Change the recovery method from a phone number to an email address

  • Change the recovery method from an email address to a phone number

  • Change the recovery email address

  • Change the recovery phone number

Managing a recovery method

  1. If you don't already have a recovery method set up, you will see a message saying Recovery method not set up. Click Add a recovery method underneath this message.

If you do already have a recovery method set up, click 2-factor authentication, then click Manage recovery method.

    Manage recovery method option.

📎NOTE: You may need to log in and authenticate again to verify it's you.

Verify it's you screen where you enter a 6-digit code.

  2. If you're setting up a recovery method for the first time, you will land on the Select a recovery method page.

A screenshot of the 'Select a recovery method' screen. It show two options, 'Add a recovery phone number' and 'Add a recovery email address'

If you're changing an existing recovery method, first click Change recovery method, and you will then land on the Select a recovery method page.

  3. On the Select a recovery method page, add a recovery phone number or email address.

If you already have a recovery method set up but want to change it, click the relevant option, then enter the new phone number or email address.

📌TIP: Choose a method you have access to in the event you lose or don't have access to your device.

For example, if you lose your phone and can't receive a text to the recovery phone number.

Once set up, you can now use this recovery method to log in if you can't access your primary 2FA method and have lost your recovery code, or have just lost your recovery code and want to generate a new one.
