The Sales & Orders platform is built to help eCommerce retailers effectively manage and optimize their Shopping campaigns in today's top ad platforms.
A major piece of the campaign optimization puzzle is adding negative keywords to your campaigns to combat wasted spend on search terms that are either irrelevant or just not working for you.
Applying negative keywords to your Google and/or Microsoft Bing Shopping campaign in the Sales & Orders campaign manager tool is easy!
To get started, navigate to the Campaign Manager portion of the platform, than click into the Negative Keywords page.
Next, select your channel from the dropdown in the top left corner. There are only two options here; Google or Microsoft Bing.
Once you choose your channel, you can choose to apply negative keywords to Campaigns or Ad Groups. Do this by clicking the + Add Negative Keyword button to the top right of the screen.
Next, you'll be prompted to select the Campaign or Ad Group you wish to apply your negative keywords to. Make your selection, than input your negative keywords in the provided box one per line. Click create to finish.
Note: There are 3 different match types for negative keywords that each have a different function.
Exact Match: For negative exact match keywords, your ad won't show if the search contains the exact keyword terms, in the same order, without extra words. Your ad may still show if the search contains the keyword terms with additional words.
Example negative exact match keyword: [running shoes]
Phrase Match: For negative phrase match keywords, your ad won't show if the search contains the exact keyword terms in the same order. The search may include additional words, but the ad won't show as long as all the keyword terms are included in the search in the same order. The search may also include additional characters to a word and the ad will show even when the rest of the keyword terms are included in the search in the same order.
Example negative phrase match keyword: "running shoes"
Broad Match: This type is the default for your negative keywords. For negative broad match keywords, your ad won't show if the search contains all your negative keyword terms, even if the terms are in a different order. Your ad may still show if the search contains only some of your keyword terms.
Example negative broad match keyword: running shoes
If you decide you want to remove a negative keyword, you can also do that by clicking the red garbage can icon to the right of the negative keyword list.
