Changes To Your Checkout Page

This product is now classified as a Physical product. Once a product is classified as a physical product, you will notice two big changes to that product’s checkout page.

1: The Shipping Address fields will be required, and cannot be turned off.

2: You will see an area where customers can change their quantity and see their shipping & handling charges.

The total price will automatically update to reflect any changes in quantity or shipping address. So your customers always know what they are being charged, before completing their order.

Customizing Your Shipping Costs

You are free to charge whatever you would like for shipping & handling on your SamCart products. To customize what you are charging for shipping & handling, follow the instructions below.

  • Click on the Products tab.
  • Select any physical product (or create a new physical product).
  • On the Type tab, find the Shipping Costs section (pictured below).

Use this table to set shipping & handling charges based on your customer's country.

  • In the By Itself column, enter the price you want to charge for shipping & handling.
  • In the Per Additional Item column, enter the additional price you want to charge if you customer decides to purchase more than 1 of your product.

As an example, in the screenshot above, United States customers who purchase 3 of this product will be charged $9.00 for shipping & handling ($5.00 + $2.00 + $2.00 = $9.00 total).

Canadian customers who purchase 2 of this product will be charged $12.00 for shipping and handling ($7.00 + $5.00 = $12.00 total).

Countries & Zones

You can customize your shipping costs based on where your customers are buying from. Your Shipping Costs table will come pre-loaded with two options.

  1. Your Default Country
  2. “Everywhere Else”

As you can see from the screenshot above, our default country is the United States. “Everywhere Else” is a catch-all of all other countries on the planet, so you don't have to create a rule for every country on the planet.

Just another way SamCart tries to save you time & headaches!

If you would like to add an additional country or zone, click on the Add Location button and choose another location you would like specific shipping costs for.

In the dropdown menu, you can select either an individual country, or a zone.

Zones are pre-determined groups of countries, designed to save you some time setting shipping rules. So instead of creating rules for each individual country in Asia, you can simply select the Asia zone.

SamCart has 9 zones you can choose from. They are listed below.

  • North America
  • South America
  • Carribean
  • Africa
  • Antarctica
  • Asia
  • Europe: Non-EU
  • Europe: EU
  • Oceania

You also have a complete list of world countries to choose from. Any rules for an individual country will override rules for a zone that country is a part of.

For example, if you have shipping costs set to $5.00 for the United States, and a separate rule charging $10.00 for North America, any United States customers will be charged $5.00 for shipping & handling.

Shipping Costs For One Click Upsells

If you want to charge shipping & handling costs for one click upsells, there are two things you need to do.

1: Make sure you are collecting Shipping Address on your checkout pages.

If you don't collect your customer's shipping address at checkout, then SamCart will not know what to charge for shipping & handling costs for an upsell purchase.

2: Fill out the "With Another Item" column of your Shipping & Handling costs settings.

Open the product settings for the product you are selling as an upsell. Toggle the product to Physical, so your shipping & handling settings are on.

When this product is sold as an upsell, SamCart will charge shipping & handling costs from the "With Another Item" column shown below.

When you collect shipping address information from your customer, and SamCart has shipping & handling prices in the "With Another Item" column, your customers will be correctly charged shipping & handling when this product is purchased as an upsell.

In the example above, "Physical test product" was purchased as an upsell to "Testy Mctesterson". You can see that the upsell charged both the $20.00 product price and the $6.00 shipping & handling charge.
