If you are a company that shares the same android tablet among many field technicians, you may find that one user can view another users email, calendar, or other private information.

You can follow the steps to set up separate user accounts for each android user.

Step 1: Choose an Admin

Before you can securely set up multiple user accounts, you'll need to choose who will be the Admin or primary user of the device. The admin will be able to create other user accounts and will assist users when issues arise.

Step 2: Create a new User

  1. When you login, go to the "Settings" App. It's blue with a gear icon.

  1. Click on "Cloud and Accounts" in the left menu.

  1. Click "Add user or profile". You'll see a modal that asks you what type of user you want to create. You'll select "User".

Step 3: Set up the new user

In order to set up the new user, they'll need to be available to take the device and set up their space.

Continue by clicking, "Set Up Now".

The device will switch to the new user and the user will then be walked through a set up process. Follow the directions on the screen.

Step 4: Create a password for the new user

You've created and set up a new user, but the new user is currently not secure. You'll need to add a screen lock or another authentication method in order to secure the user.

To do this,

  1. Go to the "Settings" App

  2. Click on "Lock Screen" in the left menu

  3. Click on your preferred authentication method: Pattern, Pin, or Password (most secure)

  4. Follow the on screen directions to set up your authentication

To test the authentication, push the "Power" button on your device to put the device to sleep. It's on the top right. Hit the "Power" button once more to wake it up. Swipe the screen up to enter your pattern, pin, or password.

Step 4: Switching users on your Android device

To see it all in action, you'll need to put your device to sleep by pushing the power button on the right, top side of the device. You'll then wake the device up by pushing the power button again.

Next, we'll switch the user to the user you just created.

To switch your user, you'll need go to the top right of the lock screen where you'll see a user Avatar (circle with a face icon or actual photo).

Click on the avatar, you should see two users or more.

Select the user you just created.

Next, you'll swipe up on the lock screen and provide this users authentication method.

Step 5: Downloading the SampleServe Field App

Since this user has separate preferences, you'll need to download the SampleServe Field App again.

You'll also need to have the new Field Technician sign up or Login to SampleServe when the Field App is opened.

Congrats, you've successfully create and set up a new user who can securely log in and out of the device.
