Common issues when trying to upload data

1. CAS # to Date (YYYY-MM-DD) Issue

Check the CAS Numbers before uploading your data. We require all substances to have their CAS #.

The most common CAS issue is with Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) because MTBE has a CAS # of 1634-04-4. Most excel and google sheet files convert/recognize this CAS # as a date making it 1634-04-04. You will need to remove the extra zero.

Just deleting the extra 0 will not work and the spreadsheet will still view the CAS # as a date. The steps below will help solve the issue.

  1. Select the Unit column this case column J and then go to Format (Google Sheets) > Number > Plain Text. This will convert the CAS #s acting like dates back to plain texts.

  2. Use "Find and Replace" (1634-04-04) with (1634-04-4). Don't need to use the parentheses ().

2. Unit Issue

When uploading check the units you are using prior to your upload attempt. Most units are accepted but we don't have the ability to use Mu (μ) at the moment.

International System of Units (SI):

Mu (μ) symbol convert to (u)

μg/L to ug/L

In the image above the units are still (μg/L) make sure to convert to (ug/L) or (ppb).

3. CSV Format File

Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file before uploading the file to SampleServe.
