To mark a child as absent or on vacation you would click the Actions drop down across from the child > select Mark as Absent - Sick, Vacation or Other. 

You can also do this for a group of children by selecting the dots beside their name > Click the top drop down (3 dots) > Mark Absent - Sick, Vacation or Other.
