At Savo Store, we understand that the safety of your goods in transit is crucial. Our Shipment Protection Program is designed to provide peace of mind by covering your items against loss or damage under specific conditions.
Buy and Ship Service Shipment Protection
All items purchased under our Buy and Ship service are fully covered against loss or damage while in transit. This is built into the service, ensuring that your goods are safeguarded from the time they leave our U.S. warehouse until they reach you in Kenya. Coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, and limitations of our Shipment Protection program.
Shipping Only Service Shipment Protection
Shipment Protection is a standard and mandatory requirement for all Shipping Only orders with Savo Store. Shipment protection provides an added financial safeguard for your goods in the event of a covered loss or damage.
Shipment Protection Cost
Shipment Protection for Shipping Only orders is charged at:
4% of the declared shipment value
Minimum charge: $4.00 per shipment
For example, a shipment with a declared value of $500 will have a Shipment Protection charge of $20.
Payment for Shipment Protection
For Shipping Only orders, the Shipment Protection charge is automatically included as part of your order charges.
Applicable shipping charges and Shipment Protection charges must be paid before your shipment departs our US warehouse.
Shipment Protection charges are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Why Is Shipment Protection Required?
International shipments move through multiple facilities, carriers, and handling points before reaching their destination. While we take every reasonable step to maintain the safety and integrity of your shipment, unexpected events such as loss or damage can occur during transit.
Making Shipment Protection standard on every order ensures that every customer has an added financial safeguard for their goods in the event of a covered loss or damage.
Our goal is to provide greater peace of mind and ensure that Shipment Protection is a standard part of shipping with Savo Store rather than something customers only discover they needed after an unexpected incident.
When Does Shipment Protection Begin?
Shipment Protection applies to eligible goods after they have been inspected at our U.S. warehouse and during their transportation to Kenya, subject to the terms, exclusions, and limitations of the program.
For an item to be eligible for Shipment Protection, it must be accurately listed on your Savo Store order.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that:
Every item included in the shipment is listed on the order.
Item descriptions are complete and accurate.
The declared value of the shipment is accurate.
Items that are not listed on your Savo Store order are not eligible for Shipment Protection.
Termination of Shipment Protection
Shipment protection coverage ends upon:
Collection from our Nairobi pick-up point, or
Delivery by our contracted courier, Fargo Courier Limited.
It is important that you verify the contents of your package before departing our Nairobi pick-up point, or shortly after delivery by Fargo Courier. All claims for loss or damage must be made immediately upon receipt of your goods.
Third Party Collection
If you arrange for a third party—such as a friend, family member, rider, independent courier, or other agent—to collect your shipment from our Nairobi pick-up point, Shipment Protection ends once the shipment is handed over to that person or company.
Savo Store is not responsible nor liable for loss or damage that is reported after your authorized third party takes possession of the shipment. This is specified in our Rider Liability Agreement (Section 5(c) of our Terms & Conditions).
Coverage Limitations and Exclusions
Shipment Protection does not provide coverage for every item or circumstance.
The following limitations and exclusions apply:
Unlisted Items: Our Shipment protection program does NOT cover goods that are not listed in your Savo Store order. When you ship with us, you have an obligation to create an order in your Savo Store account listing all items in your shipment. You cannot make a claim against an item that you had not listed in your order. It is therefore imperative that you ensure that you have listed each and every item in your order. By shipping with us, you agree that shipment protection does not cover any unlisted items.
Prohibited and Restricted Items: Our Shipment protection program does NOT cover contraband goods, counterfeit goods, illegal goods, goods prohibited for transport by the vessel owner (carrier), any goods in our Prohibited items list, edible goods (perishable food items), fragile goods made of glass, ceramics, porcelain, earthenware or stoneware, liquids (including fragrances, and lotions) goods that may get damaged due to pressurization or any goods that may leak or melt on transit.
Goods with Electrical or Compatibility Issues: Our Shipment protection program does NOT cover products that are rendered inoperable in Kenya due to different voltage standards and wireless networking standards (GSM vs. CDMA). The voltage requirement for Kenya is 240 volts. If you purchase and/or ship electronics with us that do not meet this voltage requirement, Savo Store cannot be held liable for any damage resulting from operating them. If you purchase and/or ship a cellular device that ends up not working due to networking standards (GSM vs. CDMA), Savo Store cannot be held liable for this anomaly.
Maximum Reimbursement & Declared Value
Any reimbursement approved under our Shipment Protection program is limited to the declared value of the eligible item or shipment.
Under no circumstances will Savo Store reimburse an amount greater than the value declared on your Savo Store order.
You are responsible for providing an accurate declared value when creating your order.
Filing a Shipment Protection Claim
If you believe an eligible item has been lost, damaged, or is otherwise subject to a covered claim, you must notify Savo Store within 1 calendar day of receiving or collecting your shipment and follow the applicable claims procedure.
You will be required to provide verifiable supporting information, including photographs, proof of value, order information, packaging, vendor contact information, and any other documentation deemed necessary to evaluate your claim.
Claims reported more than 1 calendar day after the shipment is received or collected will not be eligible for reimbursement. Failure to provide the required supporting documentation will affect your eligibility for reimbursement.
Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for complete claims requirements, eligibility criteria, and applicable deadlines.
Coverage remains subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, limitations, declared value, and eligibility requirements of the Savo Store Shipment Protection program.
