While an E-Invoice is the structured data file itself (the "letter"), Peppol is the secure delivery channel (the "postal service").

Operating on a "Connect Once, Reach All" principle, it functions much like the global telecommunications network: as long as both you and your customer are registered on Peppol, you can securely exchange electronic invoices regardless of the different accounting or ERP systems you each use.
