What is Peppol?

Understanding the Peppol Network

As governments and large enterprises globally move toward stricter digital billing standards, secure and standardized document delivery has become essential. To support this, our platform integrates with Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement OnLine), a highly secure, international network infrastructure designed for the seamless exchange of electronic business documents.

What is the Peppol Network?

While an E-Invoice is the structured data file itself (the "letter"), Peppol is the secure delivery channel (the "postal service").

Historically, businesses had to build custom, point-to-point connections with every trading partner to exchange data electronically. Peppol solves this through a standardized, open network. Operating on a "Connect Once, Reach All" principle, it functions much like the global telecommunications network: as long as both you and your customer are registered on Peppol, you can securely exchange electronic invoices regardless of the different accounting or ERP systems you each use.

Key Business Benefits

  • Guaranteed, Secure Delivery: Unlike email, which is susceptible to spam filters, bounced messages, or security breaches, Peppol provides encrypted, point-to-point delivery. You receive absolute certainty that your invoice has reached the buyer's financial system.

  • Global Interoperability: A single connection to the Peppol Network instantly allows you to transact with millions of registered buyers across Europe, the Asia-Pacific, and increasingly, North America.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Many governments worldwide now legally mandate the use of the Peppol Network for Business-to-Government (B2G) transactions, and are rapidly extending these mandates to Business-to-Business (B2B) commerce. Utilizing Peppol ensures your business remains fully compliant with these evolving e-invoicing regulations.

  • Accelerated Cash Flow: Because Peppol injects your structured invoice data directly into your customer's accounts payable workflow, it bypasses manual handling and speeds up the approval and payment cycles.

Note: Orders transmitted through Peppol Network use a strict, standardized data format required by the network based on the data Shopify provides. Because of this, they are not connected to any of your visual invoice templates.

Custom designs, layouts, and company logos will not be transmitted to the receiver, as Peppol only transfers the pure, machine-readable financial data.
