How to Set Sales Limits for Self-Serve Advertisements

This article explains how to set maximum sales limits for self-serve advertisements within your Best Of ballot. Sales limits help you manage ad inventory by restricting how many ads can be purchased through the self-serve portal.

How Inventory Is Calculated

The system automatically checks existing inventory, including:

  • Ads you uploaded manually

  • Ads purchased through the self-serve portal

If a category already has the maximum number of ads, it will not be available for self-serve purchase.

⚠️ Important: Sales limits apply to all category or group ads and are not specific to an individual category or group.

Accessing Your Ballot Settings

  1. Log in to bestof.cityspark.com.

  2. Click on the name of the ballot you want to edit.

  3. Make sure the ballot is locked before making changes.

  4. From the ballot Overview page, navigate to the Advertising section.

  5. Click Settings.

Setting Sales Limits on Self-Serve Advertisements

If you have ads enabled in the self-serve portal, you can limit how many ads are available for purchase.

Category Display Ads

  1. Click into Category Display Ads Settings.

  2. Enter a Max Sales Limit (for example, 1).

  3. Click Save after making any changes.

  4. And Save on the Setting page as well if you have made any changes.

Setting a max sales limit means only that number of ads can exist per category across the entire ballot.

Profile Card Ads

You can also apply sales limits to Profile Cards.

  1. Enter a max number (for example, 3).

  2. This limits how many profile cards can be purchased per category across the entire ballot.

  3. Click Save after making any changes.

  4. And Save on the Setting page as well if you have made any changes.

Group Ads

You can also set sales limits for:

  • Group Sponsor Ads

  • Group Interstitial Ads

Custom Voting Links

We do NOT recommend setting a sales limit on custom voting links, as these are typically high-value items you want to keep available for purchase.

Custom Ad Promotions

Sales limits can also be applied to any custom ad promotions you’ve added any to the self-serve portal.

What Advertisers See in the Self-Serve Portal

When a business clicks Promote, the system checks ad inventory in real time.

  • Categories that have already reached their max sales limit will appear as sold out.

  • Only categories with available inventory can be selected.

This applies all ads that have a max sales limit set.

Final Notes

  • Always click Save after making updates in Advertising Settings

  • Sales limits apply across the entire ballot, not individual categories or groups

  • Manually uploaded ads count toward inventory

  • Limits only affect the self-serve portal and do not restrict manual uploads
