The recent coronavirus crisis is deeply affecting many of us who build our livelihood around creating events and experiences. Most of us have had to quickly cancel or postpone events in order to stay within the CDC's guidelines of social distancing.

As a result of these precautions, many shows, classes, and community events are being moved to an online platform. Live streaming and recorded events are a great way to try to stay engaged with customers and fans. You can even use your normal payment processing, or offer a virtual tip jar using Venmo or PayPal to generate income.

Already planning to stream your event?

  • Let your media calendars know if your event has been moved to a live stream or online platform. Learn how to update your event

  • Some of our media partners are finding creative ways to feature online events, so follow these three tips when posting:

  1. Write 'Live Stream' or 'Online' in your title

  2. Use the tag 'live stream' or 'online' in your event

  3. Add the location as 'Online' and choose your city

  4. Use one of the following locations to make sure your event is submitted to the publication(s) that cover your area (**any online entry with a different location may not be picked up by our media partners):

"Online Kansas City MO" -> Kansas City Magazine
"Online Charlottesville VA" -> Several Charlottesville partners
"Online Asheville NC" -> Mountain X Calendar and Clubland
"Online Seattle WA" -> Sound Publishing (covers 13 publications)
"Online Denver CO" -> Several Denver/Fort Collins partners
"Online Iowa City IA" -> Little Village
"Online Boston MA" -> Dig Boston
"Online Santa Fe NM" -> Santa Fe Reporter
"Online Juneau AK" -> Juneau Empire
"Online Kenai AK" -> Peninsula Clarion
"Online Eugene OR" -> Eugene Weekly
"Online Portland OR" -> Willamette Week
"Online Omaha NE" -> The Reader
"Online Jacksonville FL" -> Jack About Jax
"Online Washington Post" -> The Washington Post

Interested in streaming your event?

  • Facebook Live and Instagram Live are great ways to engage with fans on social media. Zoom has a free account option, and is offering free professional account services for K-12 and churches through the end of March.

  • Plan a live stream, then update your event in SceneThink so your community calendars can feature and share your event.

Updating, postponing or canceling your event?

  • Please update your events so your local media calendars aren't displaying outdated event information. Learn how to update, postpone, or cancel your event
