Whether you're organizing a reader's choice or a best-of competition, this step-by-step tutorial will help you seamlessly set up your new ballot.

  • Log in to your Best of platform.

  • On the right side of your screen, locate and click on the "New Ballot" button.

  • After clicking the button, a pop-up will appear, prompting you to choose the type of campaign you want to build. Select between a "Standard Ballot" or a "Photo Ballot."

    • Standard ballots are suitable for a variety of readers’ choice competitions

    • Photo ballots are designed for photo-based submissions and voting, such as reader-submitted photo contests.

  • Click on the "Create" button

  • Name your Ballot: provide a name for your ballot. It must be unique in your account.

    • An auto-generated slug for the URL will also be created based on the name you input

  • Choose your ballot setup:

    • “Groups and categories” allows for categories to be grouped based on broader qualities (e.g., eating out, dining, city living, services).

    • “Categories” will give you one big list of categories from which to vote on

  • Submission Fees: Decide whether to require submission fees.

    • For most competitions, submission fees are not required.

  • Determine the voting style:

    • Choose "Don't allow write-ins" if you prefer pre-populated choices.

    • Choose "Allow write-ins" if you want participants to nominate their favorites.

  • Configuring Voting Frequency:

    • If you want to have one vote per person, leave this switch off. If you want users to vote once per day, hit the radio button to turn that feature on.

  • Once you're satisfied with your settings, click "Create Ballot."

  • After creating your ballot, you're ready to load groups, categories, and other supporting visual assets.
