A widget is a component of the CitySpark calendar platform that allows you to display a custom subset of events and provide awareness and easy access to the calendar from any page on your website. Using widgets in high traffic areas can increase visibility, engagement, and revenue for your events calendar.
Widgets highlight featured subsets of events and can be curated based on location, category, venue, custom labels, editor’s
picks, and more. Widgets also highlight your paid "featured” and “premium” events, as well as any calendar sponsor.
What layouts are Available?
We recommend using one of our six primary widget layouts(with styling that can be further customized to match your site):
Event Card
Vertical Scrolling
Vertical Classic
Horizontal - Multi Row Option
Three Column
Horizontal Classic
Where should widgets be placed?
A widget placed prominently on your homepage will drive awareness, engagement, and revenue on your events calendar, and
is strongly recommended. We also recommend placing widgets on section pages, article pages and in page footers.
How do I create a widget?
Use the widget builder on the admin dashboard under ‘Widgets > Create Widget’, and follow these steps:
Step 1. Fill out the “Widget Information” fields.
Widget Template. Pick a template and preview your choice in the ‘Widget Preview’ pane on the right of the screen (nothing will appear until you select a portal). Note the ability to see the widget at various widths in the preview the preview pane.
Portal. Each widget must be tied to a portal. In the ‘Portal’ field, select the calendar that the event data will come from and that you’d like users to find through the widget.
Title. Note that some templates have a reference title and a separate a display title.
Step 2. Set your event filters.
Review and set any filters you’d like to apply (e.g., category, label, venue, location, radius, etc.). The resulting events will appear in the preview pane.
Step 3. Styling (optional).
Your widget will inherit its color theme from the selected portal, so you should be good to go. You can, however, adjust any CSS elements in the self-contained CSS field in the advanced settings.
Step 4. Publish.
Place the widget HTML snippet on your webpage where you want it to appear. This code snippet can be found/copied at the top of each widget page.
Once the code has been placed, you can change the template or filter settings by going to the corresponding admin widget page, make your edits, and then saving. You do not need to recopy the code.
Note: some changes may not appear on your live site until the cache refreshes, which may take up to 30 minutes.
Contact support@cityspark.com if you have any questions on the above.
