Hub pages are a powerful tool to curate and display your events in a visually appealing and organized manner. This guide will walk you through the process of creating a hub page and making it the home page for your calendar.

Creating a Hub Page

  1. Navigate to Hub Pages:

    • In your calendar's interface, go to the left-hand navigation bar and click on "Hub Pages."

    • This will take you to a page listing any existing hub pages. If none exist, you will need to create one.

  2. Create a New Hub Page:

    • Click on the "Create Hub Page" button

    • Give your new hub page a name, such as "Example Hub”, “Home”, or “Holiday Events”

  3. Adding Content Blocks

    • Hub Pages are made up of blocks of content that you can drag and drop to organize. There are plenty of options - try them to figure out which makes most sense for your use case.

      • Search Bar:

        • Add a search bar to help users find events easily.

        • Customize it with a background URL, image, or color. For example, set a fun dark red background.

        • Adjust the text color and other elements as needed.

      • Event Cards:

        • Add event cards to display individual events. You can name this section "Featured Events" or "Your Picks."

        • Customize the number of cards, spacing, and filtering options (e.g., featured events, starred events, specific categories, or collections).

        • Example: Filter by a collection such as "Summer Drink Events."

      • Event Slider:

        • Add an event slider to showcase events with navigable side buttons.

        • Customize the slider's name and size (e.g., make it a large slider).

        • Filter slider events by collection or category, like all music events.

      • Featured Event Collection:

        • Highlight collections or categories at the bottom of your hub page.

        • Examples: Dance category, family-friendly events, classes and workshops.

      • Leaderboard/Billboard Ad:

        • If you have sponsorships, add a leaderboard ad to the top of the page.

        • Customize the ad with images, URLs, and adjust the spacing.

        • Optionally, add a billboard ad for larger ad space.

      • Hero Image

        • Pulls in an image and gives you some lines of text

        • Our suggestion is to instead use the Search Bar feature for more functionality

      • Image (optional Link)

        • Gives you a place for an image and an optional link, if you so desire

        • If you have an image or ad you’d like to place without restrictions on size or dimensions, use the Image (optional link) block

        • Would be great for house ads or anything else that should live on the calendar

      • Call to Action

        • Creates a customizable button that can be placed between blocks on your hub page

        • Would work fabulously for links to the full event calendar, a curated collection, special section, or any other purposes you may need a button for.

      • Mailchimp Sign up

        • Give calendar visitors a way to opt in to your mailchimp sign up.

        • Does not work for other providers and requires a MailChimp verification token

  4. Finalizing Your Hub Page:

    • Once you have added and customized all desired blocks, save your hub page.

    • Click the "Make Public" button and save again to publish your hub page.

Viewing and Setting Your Hub Page as Home Page

  1. View Your Hub Page:

    • After saving, click on "View Hub Page" to see how it looks.

    • Ensure all elements are displaying correctly and adjust if necessary.

  2. Set as Home Page:

    • Go to "Settings" in your calendar interface.

    • Under the "Design" section, select "Home Page Content."

    • Choose your newly created hub page (e.g., "Example Hub") and update the settings.

    • Now, whenever anyone visits your calendar, this hub page will be the first thing they see.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Customization: Tailor your hub page to reflect your brand's look and feel. Use background colors, images, and descriptions to make it engaging.

  • Organization: Use collections and categories to organize events logically. This helps users find what they're looking for quickly.

  • Visibility: Feature important events and collections prominently. Use the event slider and featured event collection blocks to highlight key events.

  • Monetization: Utilize ad spaces like leaderboard and billboard ads to generate revenue through sponsorships.

Hub pages are an excellent way to enhance the user experience and showcase your events effectively. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to our support team at support@cityspark.com.
