You can set a starting timecode for the videos that you upload to Screenlight.

By default Screenlight shows a videos running time. If you are planning to export comments from Screenlight and add them as markers in your NLE, you will need to make sure that the start timecode in Screenlight matches the start timecode in your NLE.

Even if you aren't exporting comments, it can be handy to set the timecode when you have sequences or clips that start at times where it's hard to convert running time in your head (i.e. starting times that don't start on the hour).

Video start timecodes can be set as an account level default, as a project level default or for each individual video. Individual video settings will override project and account level settings. Likewise, project level settings will override account level settings.

Setting the start timecode for a video

Go to the video where you want to change the start timecode. Click the Edit this asset icon.

This will bring you to a page where you can change the video Metadata or change the video thumbnail.

Enter a start timecode that matches the start timecode of the clip or timeline in your NLE. While you're here, check to make sure that the correct frame rate is displayed. If you're using drop-frame then make sure to select the checkbox. When you've completed making your changes, click Save.

Your video will now show the new start time that you have specified. All of your comments will be updated with the new timecodes so that they point to the appropriate frames.

Setting the start timecode for project videos

Go to the project where you want to change the starting timecode. Click the Edit this project icon. You can also set the default start timecode for project videos when you are creating a new project.

This will bring you to a page where you can change the project details.

Enter a start timecode that matches the usual start timecode you use for projects in your NLE and click Save. You can also chose whether to use drop-frame for video timecodes to ensure that Screenlight comments line up with the same points in your timeline.

The start timecode you set will be applied to new videos that are added to the project. The start timecode for videos that you have already uploaded will not be updated. If you need to adjust these, you can make changes to the individual videos as outlined above.

Setting the account default start timecode

To set an account level default start timecode that will be applied to new videos that you upload, click the dropdown at the top right and select Account.

Now click the Settings tab and scroll down to the section on Video settings.

Enter a start timecode that matches the usual start timecode you use for projects in your NLE and click Save. You can also chose whether to use drop-frame for video timecodes to ensure that Screenlight comments line up with the same points in your timeline.

The start timecode you set will be applied to new videos that are added to any of your projects where a project level start timecode has not been set.

The start timecode for videos that you have already uploaded will not be updated. If you need to adjust these, you can make changes to the individual videos as outlined above.

As noted above, video level settings will override project level settings, and project level settings will override account level timecode settings.
