What is the difference between the two Scribenote apps?

Explaining the difference between Scribenote and Scribenote - Legacy.

Updated over a week ago

What’s Changing?

The Scribenote app that many of you have been using is now a “legacy app,” meaning it will no longer receive new features. Starting December 16th, 2024, we’ll transition to the new app, designed to offer a smoother experience and a more solid foundation upon which to build powerful new features.

What You Need to Know

  • The new app is live as of December 16th, 2024. You can download it using the instructions here.

  • The old Scribenote app will be called Scribenote - Legacy in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The apps have different icons to help differentiate them. The Scribenote - Legacy app will no longer be available to download after April 10th, 2025.

  • You can have both apps installed on your device(s).

  • There is no migration or transition process. Simply install the new app, and log in with your existing Scribenote account.

Which App Should I Use?

You can install both apps, but here is a guide to help you choose which one to use based on your needs.

Use the NEW Scribenote app if:

Use Scribenote - Legacy if:

  • You mainly use the Scribenote app for recording purposes.

  • You export notes directly from the mobile app.

  • You frequently need to "Sync" recordings when using the Legacy app.

  • You use any Patient functionality within Scribenote (creating Patients, editing Patients, or making notes for a Patient)

  • The "Sync Recordings" process on the Legacy app frustrates you immensely.

  • Viewing and/or editing notes on the Legacy version of the app frustrates you immensely.

  • You want the smoothest and most delightful user experience using Scribenote on a mobile device 😃

Why did we make a whole new app?

If you've been using the Scribenote - Legacy app for some time, you may have noticed that certain workflows can feel clunky and unoptimized. Many components of the Legacy app haven’t been updated since 2021, and it was built on a framework that has struggled to scale with our growing user base and additional features.

The new Scribenote app has been developed from the ground up to provide a much more enjoyable experience. More importantly, it serves as a solid foundation for future development. This means that as we continue to scale and expand the features of the app, it will remain smooth and delightful to use.
