In Scribo, writing activities can be set up with various scoring options:
no scoring
a simple manually entered score
rubric-based scoring (using Scribo's rubrics or import your own)
the Scribo Score
The Scribo Score is the default option for grading an activity. It is a automatically generated score which focuses on the technical aspects of a student's writing, such as grammar, spelling, sentence structures, and task completion.
The goal of the Scribo Score is to motivate students to edit and improve their writing. This offers clear benefits beyond better writing, such as fostering self-directed learning and reducing the teacher's time spent on lower-level corrections.
Students start with a perfect score of 100, and points are deducted for any issues identified during the writing check. For example:
Grammar issues per 100 words
Spelling mistakes per 100 words
Long or complex sentences
Writing the required number of words
Using the requested number of citations (if citations are used)
.. and so on
It's important to know that the Scribo Score only looks for things you have asked your students to look out for. For example, Teachers also have the ability to make their own adjustments to the Scribo Score.
Explaining the Scribo Score to your students
It's important that your students understand that the purpose of the Scribo Score is to motivate them to revise and improve their work based on the detailed feedback they receive. Here's some information you can send to your students to help them understand the score.
The Scribo Score starts at 100, and as you write, points are deducted for things like grammar mistakes, spelling errors, and long, complicated sentences. The purpose of this score isn't to grade your work, but to help you see where you can improve in your technical writing.
More writing can sometimes lower your score, but that's not something to worry about! When you write more, there's naturally more to check for, and that’s okay. The Scribo Score helps highlight areas where you can improve, so even if your score goes down a little, it just means you have more opportunities to edit and strengthen your writing.
The goal isn't to get a perfect score. The goal is to give you a yardstick to help you keep improving by making mindful edits based on the feedback Scribo gives you. That sometimes means following the feedback, or editing a little more, and sometimes you may choose not to follow the feedback. And that's OK too, as long as you have considered it.
Remember: The Scribo Score is designed to help you improve. As you make changes, you'll see your score rise, and your writing will become clearer and stronger. Focus on using the suggestions to improve your work, even by a small amount. And don’t worry if your score changes as you write more. Each time you revise, you're making your work better!

In advanced activity setup, first set up the required fields in the Topic tab.
Then click the 'Grading and Feedback' section. The Scribo Score should already be selected as the default grading method, but if it isn't this is where you can change it.
Seeing Score Detail
When the Scribo Score is selected in activity setup, the score is shown to students and teachers whenever a writing check is done. To see how the score was calculated - and where to improve - simply click on the score. Then, click on the specific issues listed to be taken directly to that section of feedback.
Teachers can also make adjustments to the Scribo score, by deducting or adding points. To do this, simply click on 'Add Teacher Adjustment', give the adjustment a description that the student will see, and add or remove points.
