Live Monitoring Page

The Live Monitoring Screen in Scribo is where you can track, grade and give feedback on student writing for activities you have assigned. This view brings together student submissions, your feedback, AI analysis, and writing stats in one place.

What’s especially useful is that the screen mirrors exactly what students see, with just a few small exceptions. One of these is the black student list on the right, which allows you to quickly switch between student submissions. This design ensures you always see what your students see, so you're never caught off guard by a question about Scribo.

  1. Open your browser and go to www.literatu.com / app.scribolearning.com and login with your email address and password.

About Monitoring : The Student Writing Panel

This is the main editor window where a student's writing appears. In the example shown, the student Agnetha is working on a fable.

What you see is a live snapshot of their writing at the moment you open it—whether it’s still in progress or already handed in. You can jump in at any time to check on a student’s work and monitor their progress as they write.

The buttons in the grey menu control the main features of the writing space:

  • Check: Activates Scribo's AI writing feedback, however a writing check will be done when you open a student's writing to ensure you are always seeing the latest feedback.

  • Handwriting: Allows you or your students to upload handwritten text (if handwriting support is enabled).

  • Reader: This mode reads the text aloud and provides additional accessibility & translation tools to support student understanding.

  • Saved: This status icon shows student when their work is being saved. Scribo auto-saves regularly, and takes a snapshot of the student's text every time they pause for a few seconds while writing, giving you extra peace of mind that the dog can't eat their homework :).

Writing Support Panel

This section gives you and your student all of the feedback on their writing. It's also where teachers can give targeted feedback with AI assistance.

  • "Open Rubric Grading": If rubrics are being used, this opens rubric grading.

  • Teacher Feedback: If you give feedback on your student's writing, it will show here. This section also includes any writing goals you have chosen for the activity. Click a writing goal to generate it with Scribo's AI.

  • Feedback Categories: These are clickable buttons that provide suggestions to improve different writing areas. Students will see the sections you have chosen, if you have allowed them to do writing checks. As a teacher, you always have access.

    • GS – Improve Grammar & Spelling

    • V – Improve Vocabulary

    • TC – Improve Topic Coverage

    • C – Improve Cohesives (e.g., transitions, flow)

    • S – Improve Sentences

  • AI Writing Detection: Assesses if the text may have been AI-generated.

👥 Student List (Right Side)

This panel shows all students in the class with their current progress:

  • Handed in / In Progress / Not Started: Students are grouped based on submission status.

  • Each student entry shows:

    • Name and profile icon.

    • Word count of their writing.

    • Grading status (e.g., a dash "-" means no grade yet).

  • Colored dots indicate progress:

    • 🟢 Green = Submitted

    • 🔵 Blue = In progress

    • 🔴 Red = Not started

  • Clicking a student opens their writing in the main view.

🔄 Navigation & Tools (Top Right)

  • Menu: Opens a menu with options such as History, where you can see all of the student's edits in response to feedback, and Versions, where you can see all of your students edits. Scribo stores a snapshot of each student's writing every time they pause while typing. To see this in Versions, choose "Show minor versions"

  • You can temporarily lock the activity. All students will be prevented from accessing this activity while it is locked. Click the icon again to unlock the activity and give students access.

  • Open the Growth Monitoring Report and compare this activity with the last one, or any activity you choose, and see whether student skills have improved.

  • Mark all student assignments as 'Handed In' - for example, when you are ready to grade. This means that students can't edit unless you hand back the activity.

  • Hand back all student assignments when you have finished grading or giving feedback. Great for drafting. You can also hand back an individual student's activity by clicking the 3 dots beside the student's name and choosing 'Hand Back'.

Adding your own Feedback

To add your own feedback, select the student writing by highlighting it & right-clicking, or just right-click without highlighting to select the whole sentence.

In the feedback box that opens, type your feedback, use speech-to-text or leave a voice recording. You can also classify what your feedback is about (sentences, vocab, etc), and the feedback sentiment. We save this data and reflect it back in the dashboard, so you can see at a glance which skills you are giving feedback about the most.

Students will see your feedback the minute you save it.
