Setting the Student Experience

On the Scribo homepage you can go to any of your existing activities, click on the three dots icon, then select Edit Activity.

You will then be redirected to the same settings you encountered when first creating this activity. For this video, we’ll be focusing on the Student Experience tab.

On this page you can customise the kind of feedback your students’ will receive. Up top we have four student experience options you can choose from.

  • The default option Writing Check, gives students concrete feedback, suggestions, and examples that will help them improve their writing.

  • Scriblet on the other hand will simplify the feedback to make it a little easier to understand. This is helpful if you’re teaching younger or less experienced writers.

  • In Challenge, students still get feedback about the quality of their writing. However, they do not receive specific suggestions nor examples. This is handy when you want to give your students a little guidance but also test how well they can come up with their own ideas.

    • You can customize these three options further by selecting which among these feedback categories students will see. You can leave them all selected if you like or, you can deselect others if you want your students to focus on specific areas of their writing.

  • The last student experience option is Cold Write. When selected, you’ll notice that all the feedback categories disappear. In this option, students do not get any feedback on their writing. You can use this when you really want to test how well your students write without any hand holding.

After choosing your desired student experience, you have a few more settings available.

  • You can enable Stop students from pasting text if you would like your students to write their work directly into the activity itself. This helps prevent students from plagiarizing or copying others.

  • You can also allow students to use speech-to-text in writing their work. This is especially useful for students who may have difficulty typing out their work on a keyboard.

Lastly, you have the option of including a model answer for your students. You can type one out yourself or, you can use Scribo’s AI to generate a model answer based on the settings of your activity.

Once you’re satisfied with all your selected options, you can click Save and continue, if you want to keep editing your activity, or Save and exit if you’re done.

There you go! You have successfully set the Student Experience for your activity!
