Setting up Writing Plans and Scaffolds

On the Scribo homepage you can go to any of your existing activities, click on the three dots icon, then select Edit Activity.

You will then be redirected to the same settings you encountered when first creating this activity. For this video, we’ll be focusing on the Planning tab.

On this page you have features that allow you to guide your students while they’re writing their work.

For example, you can click Add Writing Plan to give your students an outline they can follow in structuring and organizing their work.

  • Scribo offers loads of different plans each suited to a different kind of writing. We highly encourage you to familiarize yourself with each type of plan to determine which one suits your students’ needs best.

  • If you find a plan you like but think it needs some adjustments, no need to worry. As the teacher, you are free to edit these plans any way you see fit.

  • Once you’re satisfied with the writing plan, you can click on the x on the top right to stow it away for now.

While writing plans are already plenty helpful, some students still need more specific guidance. For this, you can make use of Writing Scaffolds.

  • To do so, you can choose from scaffolds you have used before or better yet, use Scribo’s AI to generate a scaffold tailor fit to this specific activity. Once the scaffold has been generated, you can choose to preview its contents.

  • Here you can see how the AI has generated specific suggestions based on the topic and other details of your activity. Once again if you think this scaffold needs some changes, you are free to edit this as much as you like.

  • If the scaffold looks good, you can click the x at the top right to set it aside for now.

    • Having Writing Scaffolds is great for students who have trouble getting going with their writing. But as teachers, we know that our students are different, with some needing less guidance than others.

    • Fortunately, Scribo allows you to select who among your students gets a scaffold. When enabled, simply click on a student you think might benefit from more guidance. If you’re selecting more than 1 student, make sure to hold the control key on your keyboard as you make your selections.

When you’re satisfied with your writing plan and scaffold, you can click Save and continue, if you want to keep editing your activity, or Save and exit if you’re done.

There you go! You’ve now setup a writing plan and scaffold for your students.
