When faced with a new assignment, writing those first few words can be a challenge. But it doesn’t have to be!
In this video and guide, let’s take a look at how to get your writing started with Writing Plans & Scaffolds.
On the Scribo Writing home page, go to a writing activity and click Open. This is where you will see your teacher’s instructions as well as the space where you will write.
Seeing an empty space like this can be intimidating, making it difficult to start writing. Your teacher’s instructions may be helpful but can also be quite limited. Luckily, we have two useful buttons up here that will give you a bit more guidance.
The first button gives you access to a Writing Plan. This is a simple and easy-to-use outline that your teacher has provided. If you’re having trouble getting started, you can use this outline to plan out your ideas for each part of the essay. You can type out words, phrases, or sentences in the different parts of the plan to organize your ideas.
For example, under Introduction, you can write your topic sentence. Under each Paragraph section, put the main ideas you would like to write about. Then, add a concluding statement under Conclusion. This now gives you a general structure of how to write your essay.
However, if you need a little more guidance, your teacher can also give you access to a Writing Scaffold. This is a much more detailed guide on how to write your essay and complete your assignment.
This time, instead of a simple outline, your teacher has provided specific instructions and steps on how to write your essay. Now you can do each step 1 by 1. What’s neat is that every time you finish a step, you can tick the box beside it to indicate that this step is done. Once you’ve ticked all the boxes, your essay should be complete!
There you go! Writing Plans & Scaffolds are a great way to get a little boost to help you along your writing journey.
However, remember that these features will only be available if your teacher has enabled them. If they do not appear on your screen, you may get in touch with your teacher.
