Treasury

Getting started

What is Seapoint treasury?

Seapoint treasury allows you to earn returns on your idle cash by investing in BlackRock money market funds. Your funds are invested in low-risk, short-term government debt, typically earning higher returns than traditional savings accounts while maintaining easy access to your money.

Although the funds we offer are considered low risk, your capital is at risk, your money can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in.

How does treasury work?

When you deposit money into your Treasury account, it's automatically invested in BlackRock money market funds. The funds buy short-term debt securities (usually government bonds maturing in less than 60 days), generating returns that are reflected in your account balance daily.

How do I open a treasury account?

Treasury accounts are automatically opened for all new UK based customers who successfully pass our KYB checks. To start using your treasury account just navigate to the "Treasury" section in your left Nav bar and follow the instructions to get started.

If you're already a Seapoint user and want to access our treasury product, please contact a member of the team and they'll be able to create an account for you.

Unfortunately Seapoint Treasury is not available to EU companies at the moment.

What funds are available?

We currently offer two funds, one in GBP and one in EUR:

Deposits & withdrawals

How do I make a deposit?

  1. Go to your Treasury account page

  2. Click the "Deposit" button

  3. Select the account you want to transfer from and enter the amount you want to transfer (note: deposits and withdrawals are only possible from Seapoint operating accounts)

  4. Review the details and confirm

  5. Your deposit will show as "pending" until it's processed

How long do deposits take to process?

  • GBP deposits: Process instantly

  • EUR deposits: Process by 9am the next business day (providing the money is sent before 8pm)

You'll see pending deposits reflected in your Treasury balance immediately, even while they're being processed.

How do I make a withdrawal?

  1. Go to your Treasury account page

  2. Click the "Withdraw" button

  3. Select the account you want to withdraw to and enter the amount you want to withdraw (note: deposits and withdrawals are only possible from Seapoint operating accounts)

  4. Review the details and confirm

Once you've completed the steps we will begin to sell your fund holdings and withdraw the funds back to your Seapoint operating account.

How long do withdrawals take?

Withdrawals typically take 1-2 business days as we need to sell your fund holdings and transfer the proceeds back to your Seapoint operating account.

Can I make multiple deposits and withdrawals?

Yes you can make as many deposits and withdrawals as you want. On your Treasury dashboard you'll be able to see your total pending deposits and withdrawals and will only be able to withdraw your Total balance - pending withdrawals when you go to make a new withdrawal.

Are there minimum and maximum deposit amounts?

There are no minimum or maximum deposit amounts, however deposits and withdrawals greater than £1m may take an additional 1-2 business days to process.

Returns & performance

How do I check my treasury performance?

Your Treasury dashboard shows several ways to track performance that are updated daily at around 9am:

  • Current yield: The percent return you're currently earning net of any BlackRock and Seapoint fees

  • Monthly returns: How much you've earned this month in a £/€ amount

  • Account balance: Total balance of your Treasury account reflecting your funds performance

How do I see my return history?

  1. Go to your Treasury account page

  2. Click the arrow in the "Returns in [month]" widget

This will bring out a side drawer showing you the returns per month since your account has been open and allowing you to also view the return by year (or all time) if your account has been open over at least two calendar years.

How are returns calculated?

Your returns are calculated on a simple cash basis using this formula:

Return = End Balance - Start Balance - (Total Deposits - Total Withdrawals)

For example, if you start the month with £1,000, deposit £500, and end with £1,520, your return is:

£1,520 - £1,000 - (£500 - £0) = £20

This calculation accounts for money you've added or removed, so you only see returns generated by fund performance, not from your deposits.

Are returns guaranteed?

No, Treasury is an investment product where your capital is at risk. While BlackRock's money market funds are AAA-rated and invest in highly secure assets, returns can fluctuate and there's a risk of capital loss if underlying assets default or if interest rates fall significantly.

How often do I see returns?

Your Treasury balance updates daily to reflect the fund's performance. You'll see your returns accumulate over time as the funds automatically reinvest any income.

Fees & costs

How much does Treasury cost?

We charge an annual management fee of 0.25% (25 basis points) on your Treasury balance. This is calculated daily and deducted monthly from your Treasury account. For example if you have £1m in a Seapoint treasury account you'll be paying £2,500 in fees a year, with roughly £208 taken out every month.

However based on current rates (4.01%), your Seapoint treasury account will generate £40,100 in gross returns over the year (£37,600 net return).

How are fees collected?

Fees are automatically deducted from your Treasury account on the first business day of each month. You'll see these transactions in your Treasury activity history as "Management fee."

Whenever we take fees, we try to take them out of the "Cash" component of your treasury account. The "Cash" component is a figure of around 0.25% of your total money deposited that we set aside to take fees from every month. By doing this, we ensure that we don't need to sell any assets when taking fees which in turn reduces the fees you pay BlackRock every time they buy funds on your behalf (known as the Bid/Offer spread).

Can I see my accumulated fees for the current month?

Yes, by clicking in the arrow in the "Returns in [month]" widget, you'll be able to see the asset fee each month (including that accrued so far in the current month).

Safety & security

How safe is my money in Treasury?

Your funds are invested in AAA-rated BlackRock money market funds that invest primarily in UK government securities (for GBP).

Key protections include:

  • Assets are held in segregated accounts, separate from Seapoint's (and WealthKernel's) corporate funds

  • If Seapoint fails, your assets remain protected and separate

  • BlackRock is one of the world's largest asset managers with robust risk controls

What are the main risks?

Seapoint Treasury is considered low risk because the assets the fund invests in are government guaranteed. When an asset is government-guaranteed (usually a bond or loan), it means the government has agreed to repay the money, even if the original borrower can't. Because the government is reliable at repaying debt, these types of assets are considered very low risk. Your money can still go down (or get lost entirely if):

  • The government can't repay its debts

  • Interest rates drop to 0% or lower

How does this compare to a savings account?

Savings accounts offer capital protection up to £120,000 via FSCS but typically pay lower interest rates.

Money market funds offer potentially higher returns but with slightly more risk. However, for balances above £120,000, Treasury allows you to take on government credit risk, rather than the credit risk of the bank providing your savings account.

Our treasury product is provided by Seapoint Finance UK Investments Ltd, in partnership with WealthKernel. Seapoint Finance UK Investments Ltd (FRN: 1039246) is an appointed representative of Wealthkernel Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN: 723719).

Although the funds we offer are considered low risk, your capital is at risk, your money can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may be subject to change in the future.
