It is highly recommended that only paper is put through SEM high security paper shredders. Any metal, such as thick staples and binder clips can damage the teeth on the cutting head and put the machine out of spec. If an occasional staple that is the size of a standard thin staple gets shredded unknowingly the shredder should be fine, however SEM recommends no staples be put in the cutting head.
