What is Building a Product?

Before you can use Sellbrite to list, you must tell Sellbrite what Products you have. You must also give Sellbrite some information about your Products (description, color, size, brand, SKU, weight, etc.). This is called "building a product." Sellbrite needs this information in order to list the same Product on multiple channels. By Building Products into Sellbrite, you can have the same core information for a Product persist across all listings, rather than re-typing it all.

How does it work?

First, you tell Sellbrite what Products you have, and the information about those Products. Then, Sellbrite takes the data you have provided and creates your Products in the Products Tab.

Select Your Situation to Understand the best Product Build Path

You can build Products in Sellbrite in a few different ways. First, choose the option below that is closest to your situation. Then, follow the link at the end of this article to Build Products for the first time.

A: My SKUs Are Consistent Across All Channels

Scroll to the bottom of this article and proceed to Go-Live Step 3.

B: Some of my products don't have SKUs

  • Ex: I sell items on Etsy, and Etsy doesn't require SKUs, so some or all of my Etsy products lack a SKU.

  • Ex: My existing products have SKUs, but I want to use Sellbrite to list some new products which do not have a SKU.

Best practice: You'll need to add SKUs to all your listings. Learn how here. If you don't create your own SKU system, you'll just add some extra set-up time in Go-Live Step 4.

C: I sell different products on different channels (no overlap)

  • Ex: I have some of my Products listed on Channel 1, and the rest of them listed on Channel 2. No Products are sold on both channels, so there is no overlap.

  • Ex: I have 100 shirts listed on Etsy. I have 50 coffee mugs listed on eBay.

Scroll to the bottom of this article and proceed to Go-Live Step 3. For you, Step 3 will be two parts: first you'll build from eBay for the 100 shirts, then you'll build from Etsy for the other 50 coffee mugs. Since no item is sold on multiple channels, you have no risk of mismatched SKUs.

D: I Sell Different Products on Different Channels (some overlap)

  • Ex: I have 100 shirts listed on Etsy with SKUs. I also have 20 of those shirts listed on eBay.

Best practice: You must ensure the SKUs for any Products you sell on both channels match. Otherwise, you'll add some extra set-up time in Go-Live Step 4. This could be hours, depending on the number of Products you have without matching SKUs.

E: Mismatching SKUs

  • Ex: I have the same Product listed on a few different channels. The product has a different SKU per channel.

  • Ex: The shirt has SKU Wool_M_Black_Small on eBay, but has a different SKU on another channel, like Woolshirt_M_Black_Small.

Best practice: edit the SKU on one channel to match the SKUs on the other channels before you Build Products in Sellbrite. You must do this in the sales channel directly, not in Sellbrite. Otherwise, you'll spend some extra time manually linking in Go-Live Step 4.

F: Different Variations sold by Channel

If you sell some Variations on certain channels, but more Variations on other channels, you'll need to do a special workflow to address this. This is because Sellbrite can only Build Products as an entire family, with all the Variations in the family at once.

  • Ex: I sell a t-shirt in sizes S-L on eBay. On Amazon, I sell the same shirt in S-XL.

Follow the steps for Option C above. Then, you'll spend some extra time in Go-Live Step 4.
