What is Sellpy's view on the use of plastics?

We want to minimise our impact on the environment from plastics without compromising on the quality.

Our warehouses are real treasure chests: we sort, photograph and ship thousands of items every day. As Sweden's largest online second-hand market, we naturally try to act as sustainably as possible, but we also bear the responsibility that nothing happens to your orders, both in processing and in transport. To ensure this, all of the pre-loved items are packaged in our recycled transparent polybags. This is the only way we can keep unpleasant smells, moths or other pests away from your treasures. To ensure quality, our items pass through many hands. Transparent packaging made from recycled plastic enables checks to be carried out without unpacking the goods.

For everyone of our sold items, the journey starts with our dear sellers. The iconic and cheerful blue Sellpy bag together with the green recycling bag is the cocoon in which the items arrive at our warehouses. Starting from 2021, we have been phasing out bags that are 80% recycled plastic and we will only be offering the blue and green bags made of 100% recycled plastic before 2023.

Our recycling model works well, but we don't want to rest on our laurels: we are constantly looking for new, resource saving packaging materials to further minimise our ecological footprint and eventually be able to ship completely cradle to cradle emission-free. A concrete step towards this is our paper bags that we introduced in the spring of 2022. The paper bags, which serve as outer packaging, are made from FSC certified paper.

Our goal is to make the entire sales process even more sustainable step by step, to test various alternatives and to completely dispense with single-use plastic in the near future.
