Would you like to register your civil partner to be the beneficiary of the lump-sum death benefit in the event of your death? Find out how to do so in this article.

The lump-sum death benefit will only be paid to your partner if the conditions for entitlement have been met at the time of your death. You may, in accordance with the regulatory provisions, specify a special order of priority among the beneficiaries of the lump-sum death benefit by notifying VZ.

Check the prerequisites for entitlement

Even if the prerequisites for entitlement are not yet met at the present time, it is recommended to already submit this confirmation.

The surviving partner may assert a claim if

  • the partners were living in the same household and cohabiting at the time of the death,

  • which has lasted for an uninterrupted period of 5 years until the death of the client, or

  • the partner is responsible in full or in part for the support of one or more joint children;

  • both partners are unmarried;

  • there is neither a relationship of kinship nor a stepchild relationship.
