The Timeline feature enables you to manage, visualise, and plan project data with time-specific views for surveys, markups, and models, supporting effective 4D planning. This guide will help you make the most of the Timeline’s capabilities.

How the Timeline Works

You can apply Timeline dates to any content type, including surveys, 2D layers, 3D layers, and markups.

What Timeline dates do:

Timeline dates control when a layer is shown in a Workspace, allowing you to visualise content over time.

How they work by content type:

  • Survey data (e.g. point clouds and orthomosaics: .tif, .tiff, .las, .laz files):

    • Only the most recent layer with Timeline dates will be shown at any given time period. This avoids overlap or conflicts between 'versions'.

  • All other content types (2D layers, 3D layers, markups, etc.):

    • Any layers with Timeline dates that match the selected time period will be displayed. Multiple layers can appear at once.

If no Timeline dates are set:

The item will be visible across all time periods, regardless of what’s selected in the Timeline.

Timeline dates are project-wide:

If you apply a Timeline date to a layer in one Workspace, it will apply to all Workspaces that include that layer.

Using the Timeline:

  • You’ll find the Timeline at the top of your Workspace. To view a specific time period, simply click on a month or week.
For example, in the image below, February 2025 is selected:

  • An you can choose to display the Timeline in weeks, months or years:

Adding Timeline dates to Content

Timeline dates can be applied from within a Workspace or the Content page.

To apply timeline dates:

  1. Click on the item that you want to add Timeline dates to, to open it.

  2. In the Timeline dates section select a start and end date using the date picker.

  3. To clear Timeline dates simply click on the 'x' beside the date.

Note: Point clouds a "Capture Date" field, which is an attribute only and does not affect the layer's visualisation period.
