Sentry’s EU region FAQ

Issue

I want to know how Sentry’s EU data storage location works - where data lives, what stays in the US, pricing, and whether I can move an existing org to the EU.

Applies To

  • All SaaS Customers

  • Data Storage Location

  • Legal and Compliance

Resolution

Can I use the EU region if my company isn’t based in the EU?
Yes. You choose the data storage region when you create the organization, so it doesn’t need to match where your company is based.

Can I move an existing US org to the EU?
No. The region can’t be changed after the organization is created. If you need EU data residency, you’ll need to create a new organization in the EU. See Can I change my org's data storage location?.
To migrate, you need to manually recreate your setup, including projects, members, alerts, and integrations, in the new EU organization. Once the setup is complete, you can use the new organization going forward. Optionally, you may delete the old organization by following the standard delete-organization procedure in the settings.

Where is the EU data center?

The EU region is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. Backups for region-scoped data also remain in the EU. See Data Storage Location for details. Additionally, no persistent copies of data are stored outside the EU when the EU region is selected.

Is everything stored only in the EU?
No. Event-related data - including errors, transactions, spans, replays, and related backups - is kept in your selected region. Some account, integration, and organization metadata may still be stored in the US. See What types of data are stored where. Artifacts such as source maps, dSYMs, ProGuard mappings, and native Debug Information Files (DIFs) uploaded via the control-silo domain are stored exclusively in the EU region, with backups also maintained within the EU.

Is EU residency available on all plans? Does it cost more?

Yes. EU data residency is available on all plans at the same price as the US region. Billing is in USD.

Do different legal terms apply? Is there an EU contracting entity?

Choosing the EU region doesn’t change your service terms. Sentry doesn’t currently offer an EU legal entity for customer contracting. For more information about compliance and security, see the Trust Center, Data Processing Addendum, and security policy.

How do I see my organization’s region?

You can find it in Organization Settings and under Legal & Compliance in the app.

Can I have both a US organization and an EU organization?

Yes. You can have both, but they’re separate organizations with their own permissions, billing, and access.

What about moving from self-hosted to SaaS?

Use the migration docs to get started. If you need help with the migration, contact Sentry Support, or your sales contact if you already have one.
