Kit: What is the GBP Business Description?

Updated over a week ago

Kit reviews and suggests a business description for your Google Business Profile.

This suggested description will appear in the Approval Centre.

  • If you approve it, it will be added to your profile straight away.

  • If you don’t approve it, you’ll be asked to write your own — because a business description often needs personal details that AI might not fully capture.

Since it requires specific information about your business, we can’t offer extra help with writing your business description.

Can I get help with my GBP business description?

No, because your business description should reflect your unique business in your own words.

Kit can suggest one, but if it’s not right, you’ll need to write your own.

How can I create my business description?

If you don’t approve the suggested description, you’ll be prompted to write one yourself directly in the Approval Centre.

Here are some guidelines for creating your own Google Business Profile business description:

  • You can write a description of up to 750 characters, however, only the first 244 characters display on your Google listing unless the visitor clicks “More”.

  • Think about what you’d want your customers to know most about your business. Pretend they know nothing about you.

  • Use the most important terms that potential customers might be looking for, but do not keyword stuff. It is not believed that Google uses the description field as a factor in search rankings. However, a well-written description could help convert someone looking at your listing into a customer.

  • Don’t use all-caps, emojis, or other “gimmicky character use”.

  • Do not focus on promotions, prices, or sales. Tell people about your business instead.

  • Do not use any URLs.
