If Bing can’t see your Squarespace site, you’re missing traffic and visibility in AI tools like ChatGPT that use Bing’s index. Bing Webmaster Tools is a free platform that lets you see how Bing crawls your pages, spot technical issues, and submit your sitemap for better indexing.

Setting it up is quick, and once connected, you’ll have valuable insights into what’s helping or holding back your rankings. In this guide, you’ll learn exactly how to create an account, verify your Squarespace site, and submit your sitemap so Bing can find and show your content.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough on How to Set Up Bing Webmaster Tools

Setting up Bing Webmaster Tools is simple once you know the sequence. Follow these steps in order to connect your Squarespace site and start gathering data.

Step 1: Create a Bing Webmaster Tools Account

Go to the Bing Webmaster Tools website and click Sign In at the top. You can use a Microsoft account or log in with your Google or Facebook account.

Step 2: Add Your Squarespace Site to Bing Webmaster Tools

There are two ways to add your site:

Option 1 – Import from Google Search Console

Already using Google Search Console? Bing can import your verified sites in seconds. Once you grant access, you’ll see a list of your sites and their sitemaps. Select the site you want, click Import, and Bing will add and verify it automatically.

If you haven't set up Google Search Console, watch the video below:

Option 2 – Add Your Site Manually

If you’re starting fresh, type your full website URL (including https:// or http:// and www if used) into the field, then click Add.

Note: Bing may take up to 48 hours to display analytics for your site after it’s added.

Step 3: Verify Ownership of Your Squarespace Site

Before Bing can start tracking your site, you need to confirm you own it. There are three main ways to do this:

  • Meta Tag Authentication (recommended for Squarespace)

  • CNAME Record in DNS (advanced)

  • DNS Auto Verification (automatic, if your provider supports it)

Option 1 – Meta Tag Authentication (Best for Squarespace)

  1. In Bing Webmaster Tools, copy the <meta /> tag shown in the verification box.

  2. In a new tab, log in to your Squarespace account.

  3. Go to SettingsAdvancedCode Injection.

  4. Paste the HTML tag into the Header field.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Go back to Bing Webmaster Tools and click Verify.

Option 2 – Add a CNAME Record to DNS (Advanced)

This method requires access to your domain’s DNS settings.

  1. In Bing Webmaster Tools, copy the full CNAME record.

  2. Open your Squarespace domains dashboard.

  3. Select the domain you want to verify.

  4. Click DNSAdd Record.

  5. Select CNAME as the record type.

  6. Paste the copied value into the Host field.

  7. In the Data field, enter verify.bing.com.

  8. Save your changes.

  9. Return to Bing Webmaster Tools and click Verify.

If your domain is hosted outside Squarespace, follow your provider’s instructions for adding a CNAME record.

Option 3 – DNS Auto Verification

Bing Webmaster Tools can verify your site automatically if your DNS provider supports Domain Connect. This feature detects your provider, adds the required CNAME record for you, and starts the verification process.

When prompted, sign in to your DNS account, and Bing will handle the rest. In many cases, your site is verified within seconds, though it can take up to 48 hours.

Note: If your DNS provider doesn’t support Domain Connect, Bing will show you other verification methods instead, such as XML file upload, meta tag authentication, or adding a CNAME record manually.

How to Submit Sitemap on Bing Webmaster Tools?

A sitemap is a file that lists the important pages on your website. It helps Bing understand your site’s structure and find pages that might not be discovered through normal crawling. Submitting your sitemap makes it easier for Bing to index your content.

To submit your sitemap in Bing Webmaster Tools:

  1. Log in to Bing Webmaster Tools.

  2. In the left menu, click Sitemaps.

  3. Enter your sitemap URL (e.g., https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml).

  4. Click Submit.

You can check your sitemap’s status in the list. It may first appear as Processing before changing to Success or showing another status.

Conclusion

Getting your Squarespace site into Bing’s index opens the door to more search visibility and the potential to appear in AI-driven results. By creating a Bing Webmaster Tools account, verifying your site, and submitting a sitemap, you’re giving Bing everything it needs to find and understand your content.

These steps put you in control of how your site appears in search and help you spot issues before they affect your reach. The sooner you set this up, the sooner Bing can start working for you, because in search, being found is always better than being overlooked.
