Action Overview

So far you’ve learned that a Trigger decides when your automation starts.

Now let’s talk about what actually happens when it does: Actions.

Actions are the automations you want Sequence to carry out.

Think of them as the instructions for where your money should go.

Examples:

  • Send 15% of the balance of this account to a Taxes pod

  • Send $2,000 from my Business Account to my Personal Checking

Multiple Actions from One Trigger

You aren’t limited to just one action.

A single trigger can kick off a whole series of steps.

For example, if you set up a bi-weekly trigger, you could say:

  1. Fill up your Groceries pod

  2. Then pay off a credit card

  3. And finally, send any remaining funds to your Investment Account

Action Order and Prioritization

The order of actions determines their execution sequence.

Think of it as prioritizing what should happen first with the funds available.

When a rule runs, Sequence will attempt each action in the order you’ve set.

  • If an action completes successfully, it moves on to the next one.

  • But if an action fails (due to insufficient funds or an unexpected error), the rule stops there.

  • Any actions after that won’t run, and you’ll receive an email notification about the failure.

This is why the most important actions should be placed at the top of the list.

To reorder actions:

  • Hover over an action

  • Click and drag the six dots that appear to the left of the action number

  • Move it to your desired position in the sequence

Adding an Action

Want to add an action to a rule?

Just click the blue + button in the bottom right corner of the Action panel.

Then fill in the details of what you want Sequence to do.

Deleting an Action

Want to remove a single action without deleting the entire rule?

Find the action number, then look to the right (next to the action type).

Click the small trash can icon to delete it.

Next, we’ll explore the different types of Actions you can create — so you’ll know exactly what’s possible when building your rules.
