What is the carbon footprint of a Serenade Digital Pressing?

One of Serenade’s core beliefs is that Digital Pressings can encourage music fandom to sail towards greener shores.

One of the many components of Serenade's tech stack is the Polygon blockchain. Each Digital Pressing has an NFT created in parallel via Polygon which helps us unlock access to bonus content and experiences on the platform.

We’re proud to say that each NFT we create at Serenade has a carbon footprint of just 0.00036894g - that is equivalent to just 2% of a Tweet!

What makes Serenade's NFTs so energy efficient?

About time you asked! Serenade’s energy efficiency is the result of a 'Proof of Stake' authentication method, which is far more efficient than the 'Proof of Work' approach that made headlines over the past few years.

'Proof of Stake' reduces both barriers to entry and hardware requirements to creating new energy mining blocks, as well as far better energy efficiency than 'Proof of Work'. Instead of being in a competition for energy usage, 'miners' simply stake their own cryptocurrency.

Both Polygon and now the base-layer Ethereum blockchain, use a ‘Proof-if-Stake’ method meaning that emissions have been reduced by >99%

How will Digital Pressings lead to a more environmentally sustainable music industry?

Comparing the carbon footprint of a Digital Pressing to a traditional, physical format - say, vinyl - it’s clear to see how a move towards digital forms of consumption will reduce the overall environmental impact of music campaigns.

As digital releases scale up, there may be an opportunity for physical releases to scale down, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of release campaigns (along with the piles of cassettes in landfill)!

Artists and fans can work and live on Serenade knowing their environmental impact is minimized drastically, thanks to these technologies.
