A REAL ID driver’s license or identification card is currently optional. We recommend REAL ID above Standard ID. REAL ID-compliant cards are marked by a gold star in the upper-right hand corner. A Driver License, State ID, or CDL can be REAL ID Compliant.
A REAL ID is needed to:
Board domestic flights on the new May 7th, 2025, deadline
Enter military bases and secure federal facilities.
If you want to continue to use a U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, military ID, enhanced driver’s license, or other federally accepted identification for the above purposes, you do not need to get a REAL ID, however, it is recommended.
