1. About this Financial Services Guide

This Financial Services Guide (FSG) is issued by Sharesies AU Pty Limited (ACN 646 197 122) (Sharesies or 'we', 'us' or 'our') in our capacity as an Authorised Representative (AR No: 1284794) of Sanlam Private Wealth Pty Ltd (ABN 18 136 960 775) (Sanlam). Sanlam holds an Australian financial services licence (AFSL number 337927) and has authorised the creation and distribution of this FSG.

This FSG is designed to help you decide whether to use the financial services that we offer. It includes information on:

  • the financial services we are authorised to provide and our capacity;

  • how you can give us instructions;

  • the remuneration and other benefits we may receive;

  • associations and relationships;

  • conflicts of interest;

  • dispute resolution; and

  • compensation arrangement.

This FSG is an important document that explains how we provide financial services to you. You should read this FSG carefully before using our services. It is intended to give you sufficient information to decide whether to obtain financial services from us.

2. Authorised financial services and our capacity

2.1 Who we are and what services we provide

Sharesies is an Authorised Representative of Sanlam, who holds an Australian Financial Services licence and is regulated by ASIC. This authorises Sharesies to provide the following financial services to retail and wholesale clients:

  • general financial product advice in deposit and payment products, foreign exchange contracts, interests in managed investment schemes including investor directed portfolio services and securities; and

  • deal in a financial product on behalf of another person in respect of deposit and payment products, foreign exchange contracts, interests in managed investment schemes including investor directed portfolio services and securities.

You will not be provided with any personal financial product advice by us. Any advice we provide to you is general advice only, and does not take into account your specific needs or objectives. All of our commentary, statements of opinion and recommendations in relation to financial products have been prepared without taking into account your personal objectives, financial situations or needs. It is up to you to decide whether or not you want to use our services, and if you need assistance or advice in this regard, you should consult a suitably qualified financial adviser.

In providing our service, other financial issues may arise, such as how to invest money, the most appropriate investments for you, and taxation issues. As we are not authorised to provide advice relating to those financial issues, or any other financial services except those explained above. You should seek specific advice from the appropriate professionals if these issues are relevant to you.

2.2 The capacity in which we act

We are an Authorised Representative of Sanlam. When we provide these authorised financial services we act on behalf of Sanlam and not on your behalf.

4. Associations, relationships and conflicts of interest

We may provide financial services to you in relation to accounts you open or hold on, and financial investments made through, the investment platform operated by Sharesies Limited. Sharesies Limited is a New Zealand company and is a separate entity to us. When you make an investment on the platform, your assets are held in the name of Sharesies Nominee Limited, which is also a New Zealand company and is a separate entity to us. Sharesies, Sharesies Limited and Sharesies Nominee Limited are all members of the Sharesies Group. However, we do not provide any financial services to you on behalf of Sharesies Limited. When we provide the authorised financial services to you, we do so as an Authorised Representative of Sanlam.

Should you believe the existence of any potential conflict of interest may exist, please let us know immediately via any of our contacts listed in paragraph six below.

5. Remuneration and other benefits

While using the investment platform operated by Sharesies Limited you may pay subscription fees, credit card top up fees, exchange fees, and transaction fees. You will need to pay these as applicable to Sharesies Limited - being the entity that is providing the platform. The exact amount you need to pay in relation to a trade will be confirmed when you place an order. You may also need to pay management fees charged by third party fund providers. The management fees are different for each fund, so please check the fund information before you invest.

You do not pay any fees directly to us, but under the platform terms and conditions you enter into with Sharesies Limited, you may direct that some or all of the fees you pay to Sharesies Limited be passed onto us.

We pay a monthly fixed fee to Sanlam as part of our arrangements to act as Authorised Representative to provide these services to you.

Our directors and employees who provide the financial services may be remunerated by way of salary and other employee benefits.

6. Dispute Resolution

If you have a complaint about Sharesies or our services please contact us in the first instance:

We will review the issue carefully and will generally provide a final response within 45 days.

6.2 Contact Sanlam

In the event that we are unable to resolve any issue or complaint you can contact Sanlam who has a formalised client complaint resolution procedure in place to resolve any complaints or concerns you may have about the service provided to you. These should be directed to the Compliance Manager by email at compliance@privatewealth.sanlam.com.au or via phone on 03 8640 5508.

6.3 Australian Financial Complaints Authority

If an issue has not been resolved to your satisfaction, you can lodge a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, or AFCA, which Sanlam is a member (AFCA member number 14570). AFCA provides fair and independent financial services complaint resolution that is free to consumers.

7. Compensation Arrangements

Sanlam, as the authorising licensee for Sharesies, holds professional indemnity insurance for the activities conducted under its AFS licence and continues to maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance that satisfies the requirements of s912B of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and Regulatory Guide RG 126.
