What are the participation guidelines?

Written by ShareWell Support

ShareWell groups are designed to be a space where people feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard. These guidelines help keep the experience grounded, present, and supportive for everyone.

Can I join while driving or multitasking?

No. Groups are meant to be attended while fully present. We ask that you do not join while driving, working, or multitasking so you can stay engaged and help maintain a safe space for others.

Why is being present important?

Being present helps you fully participate in the conversation and ensures others feel respected and heard. Peer support works best when everyone is actively listening and emotionally available, even if they choose not to speak.

Can I give advice in a group?

Groups follow a no-advice rule. Instead of giving advice or trying to “fix” someone’s situation, participants are encouraged to share their own experiences, reflections, or what has helped them personally. This keeps the space supportive rather than directive.

What if I need to step away briefly?

If you need to step away, that’s okay. Just try to do so quietly without disrupting the group if possible. You’re also welcome to rejoin when you’re ready.

How do I show support without interrupting?

You can show support in simple ways like nodding, using nonverbal reactions (if available), or sharing brief affirmations when there’s space. Listening fully and respectfully is also a powerful form of support.

What is triggering language?

Triggering language refers to words or descriptions that may unexpectedly bring up distressing emotions or memories for someone. In group, we encourage speaking thoughtfully and avoiding overly graphic or detailed descriptions of sensitive experiences.

What does “lived experience” mean?

Lived experience refers to personal, first-hand experience with a topic. In ShareWell groups, this means people are sharing from what they have gone through themselves rather than giving professional advice or theoretical opinions.
