Here's a quick tutorial video covering how to share your screen in the classroom:

The screen-sharing icon is on the right-hand side of the communications dock. You or your student can click on it and share your screen without installing any plugins (Note: we recommend using Lessonspace with Chrome or Firefox for the best results).

  1. Click on this icon
    โ€‹

on the right-hand side in the comms dock.

  2. A menu will pop up asking if you would like to Share your Screen, an Application Window or a Chrome/Firefox tab, select your choice. Here's how to enable screen sharing for macOS Catalina (10.15) and later.

  3. Click one of the three options to share your entire screen, window or tab. Click the blue Share button. If this is not clickable - you will have to click the preview of the screen or tab you want to share first until it is highlighted with a blue line and the share button turns blue.

  4. To stop sharing screen click on this icon
    โ€‹

on the right-hand side in the comms dock.

Please note that due to restrictions from Apple, on iPhone and iPad devices sharing a screen is not possible at this time.

Sharing screen for a video (with audio)

If you want to share a video with audio, you must share the screen and select the tab where the video is located. Make sure to then select the check box in the bottom left of the popup before clicking share.

Caution!

When sharing your whole screen, one common interaction is the so-called "infinity mirror" effect. This happens when you share your (entire) screen, and your classroom is open and visible in the screen share.

If you click Okay, I Understand, you'll see this infinity mirror effect:

The reason this effect happens is that you're sharing the screen that's showing the shared screen which creates an infinite loop of screen shares.

To prevent this, make sure that you move to another window or tab swiftly (so that the classroom space isn't visible in the area you're sharing) or you can choose to just share a specific application window or tab
