With Translation Lab's AI Translator, you may translate all the translatable resources in your store automatically.

Not only you can translate all the existing translatable resources with AI in your store, but with the Premium plan, you may also utilize our Auto AI Translations feature, to make sure that newly added products (or updated products) resources are also translated.

Before starting your translation journey, you might want to take a look at our Glossary feature and include your brand/brands name to prevent the AI from translating it.

How to translate all your resources with AI Translations (One-time)

To translate a given language with auto-translate in bulk, first, make sure you have enabled the AI Translation for the language, which you wish to auto-translate, on the Languages page:

Then, go to the AI Translations page in Translation Lab

Select the Languages for which you want to run the AI Translate task:

If a given language is grayed out, please enable the AI Translation for the given language in the Languages tab (more details in Step 1)

Once the "AI Translate" toggle from "Languages" is enabled for a given language, it cannot be stopped (disabled).

Then, you can select which sections of your store you wish to translate - Products, Collections, Theme resources, etc. If you wish to translate them all, simply click the Select all button:

If you wish to not translate specific parts of those sections, you may deselect them. For example, if you don't wish to translate the product names, you may click on the title checkbox to deselect it, as shown in the screenshot:

If you want to translate Product metafields as well, make sure you select which product metafields should be processed:

You may select their namespace + key from the dropdown:

Now that you have selected which sections you wish to auto-translate, from the What to translate dropdown, you may select whether you wish to translate resources that don't have translation, resources with outdated translation, or all resources:

  • Not-translated - resources that don't have a translation

  • Outdated - resources that have previously been translated, but afterwards, their primary language text has been modified

  • Not translated or Outdated - both #1 and #2

  • Translated - translate only resources that have existing translations (and are not outdated)

  • All - translate all the resources

Once you select this, click on the Translate button at the bottom. This will start the auto-translate task in the background, so you don't have to stay on the page until it's finished. You can always come back to the AI Translation page to see its progress:

In case your store has a huge amount of resources, it might take some time before it's complete, as Shopify has a limit on how many translations can be stored in their database per minute.

Translation Lab will also provide you with a running task tracker that allows you to easily monitor your progress of the ongoing translation task for your other language:

By pressing the Go to task button, you will be able to see the full details for your running task in case you were not sure how you set it up initially.

The AI Translations task is run for existing resources. If you add new resources to your store in the future, or update existing resources content, make sure you run a new AI Translation task, or, use the Auto AI Translations feature as shown below.

How to automatically translate new resources with Auto AI Translations (Recurring translations)

The Auto AI Translations feature is available in the Premium plan

With the Auto AI Translations feature, you can set the translations of new (or outdated) resources on auto-pilot.

Go to the Auto AI Translation page. Then, click on the radio button Run auto AI translate:

And then, just like with the one-time AI Translation task, you have to select:

- Language for which the auto AI Translation task to be started

- Resources

- And whether it should auto AI Translate Not Translated, Outdated or both types of resources

Changes to this configuration are saved automatically

Once the AI Translations are done

If you have followed the instructions in this article on how to AI Translate all your resources, there might be a few other types of resources, that are not included in the AI Translation feature, but are still available for bulk AI Translate:

Shop policies

Shop policies are legal documents and that's the reason why they are not included in the AI Translation feature out of the box. We have excluded them from the feature since those should be translated by a dedicated translator.

However, if you are 100% sure that you wish to AI Translate them, you can do that under Translations -> Shop policy.

Once there, click the AI translate button near the Shop policy you wish to AI Translate and save the changes:

Not translatable resources [Third Party Apps / Custom HTML/Liquid blocks]

If a given app does not support the multi-language feature, its resources will not be translated with the AI Translation task. Apps that have not been updated to support it do not create "translatable" resources in the Shopify database, over which our app has control.

Our Custom Translations feature can be used in such cases as a workaround, you can learn more about how to use it to your advantage here.

If you have any trouble or are unsure how to proceed, don't hesitate to contact our support team for assistance!

Updating statistics

The Translations page also includes a more detailed overview of the translatable resources in your store, for each language, you can update the statistics and track your translation progress by updating the statistics:

You will also see a bar that will allow you to track the status of your task:

You can keep using the app and translate while the update is running, but note that your statistics might be outdated if you make changes in the targeted language.

Once the task finishes, you can see your up-to-date statistics:

Some resource categories that are "optional" such as the translation of Images will not have a progress bar.

Whether you translate automatically, manually or by importing a CSV - you would have to update statistics in order to see an up-to-date representation of the current progress.

FAQ

Question: How to improve the quality of the translations?

Answer: There are two main approaches, depending on what you’d like to improve:

1. Adjust specific words or phrases

If only certain terms are translated incorrectly or inconsistently, you can use the Glossary feature. This allows you to define exact translation rules for specific words or phrases, ensuring the AI always translates them according to your preference.

2. Improve overall translation quality

If you’d like to enhance the general tone, style, or accuracy of all translations, the Premium plan allows you to connect your own API key for a selected translation engine (for example, OpenAI). You can also provide custom translation instructions that the AI will consistently follow, giving you greater control over output quality and style.

Question: How to disable the "AI Translate" toggle for a given language on the "Languages" page?

Answer: Once AI Translate is enabled for a specific language, it cannot be turned off individually. The only way to remove it is by deleting the language entirely.

Please note - Deleting a language will permanently remove all translations associated with that language.

It will also free up the AI language slot, allowing you to use AI Translate for a different language instead.

This restriction exists to prevent bypassing plan limits, because we cover the cost for every AI-translated word, even for users on the Free plan. For example, on the Free plan, AI Translate can only be enabled for one language, and allowing the toggle to be turned on and off would effectively bypass that limit.
