In this article, you will find information on migrating from another translation app to TLab. And the main question that occurs if you migrate is "Will I lose my translations if I switch to TLab?".

The answer depends on whether the other translation app is a native translation app (like "Translate & Adapt" for example), or a non-native (like "Weglot" for example).

If Your Previous App Was a Native Translation App

If your previous translation app supports Shopify’s native multi-language feature, your translations are already stored within Shopify’s system. In this case:

  • You won’t lose your translations.

  • Shopify keeps the translation data, not the app itself.

  • Our app (like other native translation apps) simply acts as a user-friendly interface for managing and displaying those translations.

So once you install our app, your existing translations will be available automatically – no need to re-import or redo them. In fact, you can install our app prior to uninstalling the other and make sure your existing translations are already present in TLab

Having 2 native translation apps at the same time does not causes conflicts

If Your Previous App Was Not a Native Translation App

If your previous app didn’t use Shopify’s native translation system (also known as the Storefront API or the Translations API), your translations are not stored in Shopify and won’t automatically appear in our app.

It's best to double-check this with the given app's support team.

In this case:

  • You’ll need to contact your previous app’s support team and ask:

    • Do they offer an export option?

    • Can they provide your translations in a Shopify-compatible format (such as CSV, JSON, or compatible with the Translations API)?

If yes, you can then import those translations into Shopify and manage them using our app.
