Rand McNally Distance Configuration
Shipwell has extended our integration with the Rand McNally Distance Calculator by bringing in certain configurations supported by Rand McNally. Shippers can now configure settings for each Customer that is using the Rand McNally Distance Calculator.
In the “Manage-->Customers” section, when Rand McNally is selected as the distance service, you will see an additional link to “Distance Configurations”. This link is only visible when Rand McNally is selected as the Distance Service.
This link will open a new modal on the screen with varying configurations (tool tips are provided for each field):
Dropdown field details:
Routing Type:
Determines if route is optimized for shortest distance or trip duration.
Shortest optimized for distance, used for mileage rating.
Practical optimized for time based on legally posted speed limits, used for mileage rating.
Fastest optimized for time based on traffic conditions, used for trip planning.
Vehicle Type:
Type of transport (Note: The only option available at this time is “Truck”)
Vehicle Length
Number of trailers or length in feet if single trailer.
Hazmat Type
An array of hazmat types of the load being transported. The hazmat type informs route calculation to take into account restrictions and designated roads for hazmat loads. Any combination of the following values is supported.
Avoid
Avoid preferences to minimize travel in tunnels, highways, or unpaved roads. Note, this parameter is available only for Fastest route type. Any combination of the following values is supported.
Waypoint Type
Determines if route is based on zip to zip or uses full addresses. Postal Code applies to Guide 19 only, and does not support consecutive stops with the same postal code.
Checkbox details:
Waypoint Optimize
Waypoint Optimization preferences to re-order stops for most efficient route.
Lock Last Waypoint
Waypoint Optimization preferences to re-order stops for most efficient route.
Lock First Waypoint
Waypoint Optimization preferences to re-order stops for most efficient route.
Optimistic Search (Note: defaults to true/checked)
Optional boolean parameter to reduce ambiguities with waypoint lookup, applies to Guide19 only
Once configurations are saved, users will see a green “successful save” message and the modal will disappear, returning them to the Manage Customer screen.

New/v3 Order Importer Updates
The new/v3 Order Importer has been updated to support an expanded list of fields. These updates apply no matter if you are a customer leveraging the order importer through Shipwell web or you are a customer passing in the order importer file through SFTP. Note that some of these fields are not currently but will be in the future as we are doing an order interface update for v3 orders to align with our new shipment creation updated interface experience.
Note that none of these new fields are required. Therefore there is NO need to update your current v3 Order Importer file unless you want to take advantage of any of these new fields.
As a reminder any field that is within your Address Book or Product Catalog that is not provided in the importer but yet your order is referencing a specific Address Book Reference or Product Catalog Reference will have that fields passed in from the respective Address Book or Product Catalog entry.
To learn more about these fields you can review the Order Importer Instructions (v3). The new fields added to the order importer include:
